The Web has hit a point where tracking pageviews is useless for startups. There was a time when all you needed to succeed on the Internet were lots and lots of eyeballs, and the best way of measuring those eyeballs was by tracking pageviews (measuring exactly which pages on a website are viewed by individual visitors). The dot-com crash showed us that the eyeball-based business model was a failure. Sponsor Since then, startups have moved ...

There's not a lot to see here -- in fact, there's nothing at all to see at this point -- but The New York Times has it on good authority that Google, Intel, and Sony have teamed up to develop an Android-powered internet platform using Atom processors for televisions and set-top boxes. Dubbed Google TV, the apparent mantra seems to be making web app navigation (Twitter, Picasa, etc.) as easy as changing the channel. Joining ...

Every generation thinks that they are the first. The first to feel this way or that, the first to make this or that revelation, the first to do and make things that we find later have been done and made since before we could record their doing and making. But while these illusory and fleeting firsts are common to every generation, there are true firsts being achieved constantly, though they are often subtle enough that ...

According to the New York Times, they’re partnering with Sony and Intel in a new Android-based platform literally dubbed Google TV.The new set-top box will allow users to surf online video from the comforts of the couch, and will ...

Currently, your contacts live in address books that are distributed all over the Internet and your desktop. Because of this, chances are that you have numerous address books on the web that are often "inconsistent and disjointed." Contacts, a new Mozilla Labs project, wants to put an end to this. The Contacts addon creates a local database for all your email and Twitter contacts that can then be used by your browser and any website ...

CrunchBase Information WatchMouse Facebook bit.ly Information provided by CrunchBase

Google Code had an anniversary today and they mentioned some of their stats. Foursquare might’ve been last year’s breakout app at SXSW, but it looks like this year’s conference had a much more profound impact on the service’s growth. The location based network tweeted on Wednesday afternoon that it’s added “almost 100,000 users” in the past 10 days. That’s a huge number when you consider that the year-old company reported having “over 500,000” users less than a week ago. Anecdotally, I can also tell you that the surge in ...

Microsoft certainly set off a firestorm of controversy yesterday with the revelation that Windows Phone 7 Series won't have copy and paste, since it doesn't necessarily line up with what the company has said in private before -- and the issue seems to have gotten even more clouded as people have started hacking around the emulator. So let's set the record straight on what we were told, since it wasn't ambiguous in any way: Microsoft ...

HTC hasn't filed its official reply to Apple's patent lawsuit in court yet, but the company just gave us an updated and expanded statement on the case, saying that while it "strongly advocates intellectual property protection," it disagrees with Apple's actions and will "fully defend itself." Natch. HTC obviously wasn't eager to divulge whether or not that means it's going to countersue Apple with its own patents, but we're sort of expecting it -- we'll ...
