Obvious but often overlooked: a cat bowl doesn't have to be a cat bowl. Why spend $30 on a designer chow bowl or $9 at a big box when there are better options in your own cupboard? Then you can all enjoy it. What other people stuff have you surrendered to your pet? We regularly switch out our cat dishes and bowls with odd dishware bought on trips, at flea markets, etc. Next up: We're ...

You've got the cool bike, the designey basket, the wooden bell... now you can finally replace that safety-first, style-last helmet with this ingenious helmet + cover system that you might actually want to wear. And yes, they are unisex. The Denmark-designed brand is Yakkay and the covers/hats are darnright cute as well as easily switchable for another style or color. Now there's no reason or excuse to ride commando. Currently not stateside, the Berlin-based site ...

There's a lot of room for misunderstanding here, and I've just discovered I'm guilty of it.The guy in this picture is Ray, a Clinton delegate from San Diego California. Ray was next to Gloria Allred at the California Delegation breakfast I blogged about yesterday. He and Gloria were making the point that the Clinton delegates were being silenced. As I said in my post, Gloria had a scarf tied around her mouth as a gag.Ray ...

On Wednesday, June 18th, David Lankes spoke at UMCP. “If libraries fail, is (our) fault. no pressure.” Here are some of my notes: The Question you ask is important. What is the future of libraries? What should be the future of libraries? What should be the future of libraries and librarians? What should be the future of libraries and librarians in a democracy? Well, VMware has released patches for both systems ahead of schedule. You can read about the patches here, or go directly to download the ESX or ...

A new, fun, rockin'-in-our-car favorite this week, The Terrible Twos Band released Jerzy the Giant today. A mix of indie rock with classic, these fun songs get the kids dancing and singing. The boys' hands down favorite, Great Big Poop, is certainly not mine (though I do have to admit, that I love hearing the belly laughs as we listen to a whole song about the forbidden word). But I am enjoying hearing my favorites, ...

I wear my shades nearly 24/7. They're my most-used accessory, and then some. If they aren't on my eyes (years ago I had eye surgery, so shades are more than a for-fun accessory), then they're on my head, as a headband. In fact, if shades don't hold my hair back, then they fail my wearability test. But enough about me. Perhaps its the influence of doing what Mommy does. But ever since my 4-year-old picked ...

We awoke to Sunday sun after a week of rain. I love winter clouds and rain, and I especially welcome them now when our climate has changed and has brought us later and milder winters. The break in the rain inspired us to take an old style bush walk in the hills. Blues and greens everywhere. Enjoyable. Now as I type this I hear the rain again.
