Google is announcing a new enterprise product today. Google Video for Business. The product is available to Google Apps premier subscribers, which costs about $50/user/year. Each Google Apps Premier Edition domain gets 3GB of Video storage per user account, with a file limit of 300 MB per video. The tool is essentially YouTube for your organization. You can upload videos, comment on them, add bookmarks and share the videos around. This is interesting for a ...

When I was 12 or 13 years old, I was taught one of the most valuable lessons I have learned yet. Someone who I would call a mentor told me that his secret to life was that he was just really good at screwing up. He married someone who understood that and he was sure to always learn from each failure. This advice has served me well over the years. I married someone who is ...

Comments on blog posts have always been the forgotten son of web content. When you make a comment, you never know how it will be read, where it will end up, and because of spam issues, they rarely show up in search engines. Also, because of NoFollow, your links don’t matter either. BackType, a YCombinator funded company started by Toronto’s Christopher Golda and Mike Montano is the first tool that just may solve these problems. ...

I am sad to say that I will be missing the Office 2.0 conference for the first time ever. I went and was completely inspired at the first one, and was a co-organizer last year. There are a few things about Office 2.0 that put it above most other conferences. Here are my thoughts: The Gadget Obviously this is a big one. When I turned up for the first Office 2.0 conference, I didn’t even ...

Howard Lindzon, the founder of WallStrip and a partner at Knightsbridge Capital Partners, made a post today that I think is worth talking about. Howard spends most of his time in Pheonix, is an adviser to startups at TechStars and has done a lot of his own investing in US based startups. He thinks that things are just starting to heat up in Canada and that while there may be all sorts of problems in ...

Susan and I have been talking a lot lately about how much confusion there is around what parts of 2.0 play a role in a business, and where. The mixing and mingling of PR vs Enterprise Social Media, vs collaboration vs enterprise 2.0 tends to get mixed up quickly as people jockey for contracts and to establish themselves in the space. Customers are left pretty confused, being sold a hammer to tighten a bolt and ...

I hear from a lot of would-be entrepreneurs that they are just waiting for the right idea, or that they want to do more research on their idea, or that they need to “flesh out” their idea in order to get started. Stop lying to yourself. The big idea isn’t coming. You don’t have the big idea. You aren’t going to come up with the BIG idea. Building a great company isn’t about a single ...

You know everything you hate about twitter? Downtime, walled garden, some very poor design in places, etc. Well a solution launched today that seems to be technically superior in every way, but is going to be facing a tough battle ahead to attract users and get them talking. Identi.ca is a new open source project to build a better twitter. The actual open source project is called Laconi.ca, and it has been created by Evan ...

Dan McGrady has been on a roll with some great posts lately, and “7 Reasons Why My Social Music Site Never Took Off” really grabbed my attention yesterday. Dan started Contrastream last summer. I liked the site a lot, as I think music discovery is a huge problem that is being approached in the wrong way by the major music sites/stores. The site was well put together and full of potential, but it just didn’t ...

Idée, who we have covered a few times, is slowly going public with their skunkworks project, called TinEye. TinEye is a major undertaking, and it is going to bring Idée out of the shadows of the Enterprise product space and right in to your livingroom with a tool that is the equivalent of a Google for images. In fact, I bet Google wishes they had an image search as great as TinEye. I have had ...

It will be getting started after StartupCamp and Casecamp on the 29th. Cabs will be leaving The Carlu and heading down to CiRCA for anyone who wants keep the night going. CaseCamp along with its sponsors ...
