He went from "Here's Johnny" to Cash for Gold blingvertiser. Then came the death of two "superstars" of media. One provided eye candy to lustful young boys (and crusty old men) in the 70's. The other provided ear candy for three decades. Now comes the news that one of the most favorit hucksters of this decade has passed on. What startles me is the depth with which people are affected by this. None of these people has had a lasting impact for the good of humanity. I'm not trying to diminish their personal value. But these folks are advertisers and salespeople. Shouldn't we be more concerned about the death of human potential that exists in the abortion holocaust? Or the death of countless humanitarians and community lynchpins that occur every day? Where are our values when we re fascinated by men that never grew up or governors that cannot see beyond their own stumbles.

The exemplar is Japan, but even the US standard of 2.4 kids er household has been dwindling. Idiocracy may not correctly explain the phenomena on an individual level, but it captures the true trend (of birth rates, NOT intelligence) just fine.

That "Singularity" thing, purely a scifi-plot thing, is a flawed faith just as the belief on a decadent and ultimately doomed world.
