Everybody knows that excessive gore is fun, especially Epic Games, who brought the chainsaw murder back into popular culture with Gears of War. Discussing where he got the inspiration for the amount of "fun" gore in GoW2, artist Peter Hayes explains that 80's horror films played a big part. "That’s kind of the tone that I drew inspiration from and that’s kind of the tone that I wanted it to be in the game," explained ...

Usually, whenever we read about a Grand Theft Auto game post-release, it’s in reference to a mess caused by the game's supposed negative influences. We hear the ranting and raving over its violence, and its negative effects on today’s youth. Thankfully, we can report something much more light-hearted today. According to The Times, Grand Theft Auto was the catalyst of some quick thinking by an 11-year-old girl that helped save her family after a car ...

The remake has been serving videogame companies very well indeed for the past few years. Such successes as Prince of Persia and Ninja Gaiden have shown that an old IP can be given a fresh coat of paint and entertain a new generation of fans, as well as make nostalgic retroheads beam with delight at seeing their old heroes return. Then something like the Altered Beast remake happens. Still, regardless of the few sore points, ...

With October already jam-packed with videogame releases, who's got room for one more? Eidos, apparently, as the remake of Gauntlet for the Nintendo DS is now confirmed for release during that wallet-draining month. Developer Backbone Entertainment originally intended to release Gauntlet back in June, but the game is still promising a good portable adventure with four-player Wi-Fi co-op, a competitive mode and voice chat support. The graphical overhaul ain't too shabby either. Who's looking forward ...

Talk about a win-win situation -- unless, of course, the former prevented you from becoming intimate with the latter. While Castle Crasher's netcode remains bothersome, that's not to say it'll be impossible to get a few Destructoid groups going. The key word here is persistence. If you're eager to tackle the entire campaign from start to finish with a level one ...

With the September 9 release of Spore right around the corner, it's time to move past the press hype and for the marketing campaign blitz to begin! But when it's as cool as these subway ads found in Boston's Harvard Square red line T stop station, it's kind of hard to complain. From the looks of it, they've taken over every square-inch of ad space in the station, with some pretty gorgeous looking Spore-inspired art ...
