I know a lot of you out there are just waiting for the Zune phone - Microsoft’s answer to the current king of multitouch telephonic devices. Until they actually confirm, check out the Zune Contact concept by Adam Huffman. He’s revamped the interface, made the body madly thin, slapped on a 5 MP camera and went all touchscreeny. Sure it’s just pie-in-the-sky now but who knows, something similar may come from Redmond Washington. Oh BTW, ...

Plastic caps were designed to keep liquids in. Then at the last minute somebody realized people actually have to remove them to get to the liquid so they threw on some groves around the cap for grip and called it a day. Bah I say! I will admit sometimes I can’t do it! That cap just won’t let go. Maybe I need a U-Cap. There’s a soft asymmetric curve on one side of the cap, ...

Mention rocking chairs and thoughts of summer evenings on the porch and cold Mint Juleps might come to mind. This rocking chair and loveseat from Wilson Scott, however, throws together polyurethane mesh, a cutout spherical shell and curved steel piping for a distinctly modern feel. Don’t know about you, but I could definitely see getting down on one of these and grinding out 10 hours on Xbox Live. Designer: Scott Wilson No Tags

Have you ever imagined that you could lick on a lollipop and change the way you think? I am not talking about some illegal hallucinogenic drug, but a legal way to changing how you think or do things. Eye Candy can. Even though the concept sounds like something from the “Electric Kool-aid Acid Test”, Eye Candy uses a Sensory Substitution Technology to naturally send vibrant, emotive images to your mind. Through the use of resonators ...

The simplest of concepts, the biggest sound! Sinus Radio is nothing to sneeze at. To turn Sinus Radio on, switch the volume nob. To find a radio station you like, turn the middle nob. That’s it, that’s it, that’s all there is! What’s the big deal with Sinus Radio? Sinus Radio is only a few inches tall; the first image you see in this post is a strange giant-world vision created by the designer of ...

The Hidden Radio concept by John Van Den Nieuwenhuizen is all good if you know how to work a knob. By pulling the cap up, the user proportionately increases the volume. Twisting the cap tunes the radio and that blinking LED gets brighter as you climb into higher frequencies. I like that it doesn’t look like a radio but what’s wrong with a normal dial? Each sphere is powered by a lithium ion rechargeable via induction when placed in the pod. The system doesn’t do surround sound since it ...

Frog Design is at it again, this time with an environmentally friendly LED based lightbulb. Although CFL’s are marketed to be widely superior than incandescents, the fact of the matter is they’re still made using very toxic chemicals. Mass acceptance has also been slower than anticipated but it’s obvious why - the cold bluish tint they cast and being non-dimmable. So what’s the alternative? LEDs. They’re getting cheaper to manufacturer. They use significantly less energy, ...

Designed for creative professionals to store materials, notes, and tools underneath, the top surface upsets our often too linear thinking. Esoteric design concepts aside, the utility of the table’s network of caging just begs to be filled with a trove of modern gadgets, if not the tangle of cords that go with them. Designer: ...
