Last night Mark Beeson and I had a great opportunity to eat dinner with the Catalyst team, including Andy Stanley and Craig Groeschel. Every time I’m around those guys—I see they are the real deal. Humble. Authentic. Guys who put their families above their ministries. I respect them both immensely. Andy began the day with a session on momentum. Some quotes… Momentum = forward motion fueled by a series of wins. In the business world, ...

Craig Groeschel is the senior leader at LifeChurch.tv. He blogs with others a Swerve. Quotable from Craig’s session… The longer your ministry has been stalled, the more likely you’ll have to do something drastic to break out of it. What got you to this point is not likely to get you to where God wants you to go. It requires a different mindset to grow to a new level for your organization. Whatever you blame ...

Andy: When I'm writing a message, I look for the part I'm really jazzed about...the part I can't wait to preach. Then I re-write it in order to make that part the central part of the message. Everything else is getting to it and getting out of it. Andy: When you are doing what God has made you to do, and spending most your time there, you have more energy for family, God, ministry, everything. ...

We are experiencing the hardest financial times of our history as a church. And it didn’t begin with the banking crisis last month…it began with a slowdown in our local economy about two years ago. We haven’t talked much about it on the weekends. Why? For several reasons: We want to help people experience God on the weekends. We want a safe place for them to bring their unchurched friends. People are more motivated to ...

This past weekend, Mark Beeson took some time in the service to address the historic presidential election that we just went through. Many people have responded with MUCH ENERGY over his comments. It is my guess that our church reflects our society as a whole in its' voting patterns. That is, probably half voted for Obama and half voted for McCain. I applaud Mark for his leadership through this very difficult subject. He could have ...

Many are saying the election on Tuesday is going to be a landslide. It might be, I don't know. But whatever the results, let's keep it in perspective. There were two elections in the past 35 years that could definitely be described as landslides. 1972: Richard Nixon = 520 George McGovern = 17 1984: Ronald Reagan = 525 Walter Mondale = 13

Several weeks ago I summarized my view of media bias during this election, both to the right and the left. A new report was released yesterday by a non-partisan group that analyzes the bias of the media covering the presidential campaign during a recent 6-week period. Very interesting. Here is my summary of the report as it relates to negative stories: Based on their negative reporting... Does the media overall favor (or reject) a one ...

Today I continue my week of political posts. Yesterday I included Donald Miller's thoughts on why he's supporting Obama. Today, we look at a different view... We are three weeks into our new service at the Elkhart campus. Week one attendance was 738. Week two 548 and yesterday we had 552. The service is held in a movie theater on two or three screens (depending on how many we need) and is 100% video...beginning to end...no live elements. Why in the world would we do that? It's a great question. And this morning I read a portion of an email from ...

Is it possible for a pastor to baptize someone who is physically several hundred miles away? Evidently one pastor thinks so. Rusty Hutson, the pastor of Cornerstone Methodist Church in Auburn, Alabama was in Granger, Indiana for the Innovate Conference last week. He believed it was important to baptize Cindy Wall via the internet so she wouldn't have to wait until they returned to town. Five days later, Cindy died suddenly of an aortic aneurysm. ...

I've watched it twice now, and these are some of my thoughts... It ...
