The Wall Street Journal put together this profile of SFZero. SFZero is a Collaborative Production Game. Players build characters by completing tasks for their groups and increasing their Score. The goals of play include meeting new people, exploring the city, and participating in non-consumer leisure activities. Cool project and a nice video, but we’re not sure why the WSJ scored the video with such annoying music.

Some clever pranksters managed to get this sign onto MSNBC’s coverage of the DNC on Monday night. I saw it live and found it quite hilarious. I found it a little less funny when I realized the DNC was taking place at the Pepsi Center (I thought it was a total non-sequitur,) but it’s still awesome to see something this silly in a crowd otherwise filled with 9/11 conspiracy theorists. via Agent Skwrl

Talking Head David Byrne designed some awesome bike racks for the NYC Department of Transportation. Amazingly, the DOT swiftly gave him the green light to turn his sketches into reality. Gothamist has a great photo gallery of all of the racks installed so far.

Last weekend, GuerilLA held an impromptu Finish Line on The Strand in Manhattan Beach, CA. The race was complete with a Finish Line sign, finish line tape, water tables, supportive signs, journalists, photographers, videographers, and a large cheering group of people spread along a quarter mile of The Strand. Runners and cyclists had no idea that they were actually near the end of a marathon, until the last second!

Double-Taker (Snout) is a project created by Golan Levin for the Robot 250 Festival in Pittsburgh. He writes: The project consists of an eight-foot (2.5m) long industrial robot arm, costumed to resemble an enormous inchworm or elephant’s trunk, which responds in unexpected ways to the presence and movements of people in its vicinity. Sited on a low roof above a museum entrance, and governed by a real-time machine vision algorithm, Double-Taker (Snout) orients itself towards ...

via Unusual Life: Tired of seeing the abandoned eyesore on a daily basis, artist Jennifer Marsh decided to cover this old gas station in 5,000 square feet of fabric. With the help of professional and amateur artists from 15 countries and more than 2,500 grade-school students in 29 states, Marsh covered the 50-year-old former Citgo station — pumps, light stands, signs and all — with more than 3,000 fiber panels that are crocheted, knitted, quilted ...

Cuprocking is the brain child of Sydney based artist Andy Uprock. By mapping out large areas of cyclone fencing and sticking plastic cups into the existing diamond shaped holes, Andy transforms streets and public areas into floating walk-by galleries. Everyone who encountered it assumed it was a performer being incredibly still. He writes: “…it’s much easier to make ...
