I know some of you have been waiting for OpenID support in Authlogic. I came up with a pretty slick solution this (check out a live example here), I think you will like it. That being said, let me show you: My dream My dream is that the following code, in your sessions controller, would be capable of handling any type of authentication method you throw at it: # app/controllers/user_sessions_controller.rb def create @user_session = UserSession.new(params[:user_session]) ...

Word-to-the-wise reports that AOL will begin checking for DKIM Authentication sometime in 2009, as discussed in a recent ESPC call. They’re using DKIM to evaluate your overall “IP reputation” (check out the AOL blog for more on that). MailChimp customers, no need to worry. DKIM Authentication is included by default (and is free) in all MailChimp campaigns (that’s what this box means, in case you were wondering):

Filed under: Security, Web services, Social Software OpenID is a great concept. Consolidating your online identity across multiple sites and services is convenient, and arguably offers security benefits. So why do some sites make it such a pain in the butt to use? We all have the same goal of providing high-quality, cost-effective IT services to the organization, and one way we can do that is by sharing core software infrastructure like Active Directory. If your company uses both Windows and ...

Session expiration is simple, right? If someone returns to their browser after a long idle period and clicks a link - you make em reauthenticate and then send them on their way. In fact, it should be even easier than normal because the app I’m working on doesn’t involve users writing a books worth of data into a form that could be lost — so it’s acceptable to “lose” their progress in almost all situations. ...

Useful not just in Rails but in any web app. Could use it as a checklist of areas to think about when considering or updating session expiration.

Magnificent, majestic, royal, breathtaking, and graceful are the words that describe best the real meaning of luxury yachts. But most of the superyachts owned by the uber-rich aren’t considered eco friendly. Here is great news for all the seekers of luxury yachts who don’t want to be impolite to Mother Nature. Sydney-based technology company Solar Sailor is currently working on a “solar sail” that might act as both a sail and a solar power source ...
