AU 2008 December 2 - 5, 2008. The Venetian Resort Hotel, Las Vegas, USA Better hurry as there is just over 10,000 attendees planned for this year and if you are one of the last you have a slimmer selection of classes and labs as well as your hotel could be down the strip due to the main hotels booked solid. In past years we have filled up to 6 hotels from the event location ...

Last year at FOSS4G, Autodesk announced that they had acquired and would be open sourcing the CS-Map coordinate system library. Today, with another press release, they announced that the source code is now available (and there’s a nice mention of MapGuide Maestro in there too). The press release doesn’t specify this, but the license selected for CS-Map is the extremely liberal BSD License. Why is this significant? Basically, because coordinate system identification and transformation is ...

Google GOOFled on StreetView results when I checked the Autodesk offices in San Rafael California. This is kind of creepy when a street is shown as the actual private property parking lot of your work. Where is the line drawn (pun intended) for the Google mapping vehicles with regard entering private property for the photographing in Google Maps? I can even see my coworkers cars like Kelly's blue Mini Cooper. Civic Center Drive is actually ...

Filed under: Culture, Mac, PC While taking us through an exhaustive hands-on with Spore, Maxis producer Thomas Vu told us that there was a "strong possibility" that the company would allow you to export your creations - creatures, buildings and vehicles - from the game into 3D modeling/animation program Maya. Vu said it wouldn't be a stretch for other 3D-creation apps (e.g. Lightwave, 3D Studio Max) to be made compatible, too. Also likely exportable is ...

Great question. Basically, a non-profit government organization with hardly any funding and a volunteer base (that I’m a part of) is in one corner and an 800+ pound gorilla with an unlimited budget is in the other (that I’m on the R and D team for). I think what a large portion of the industry doesn’t seem to understand is that IFC will be fine to use…in 5 years, but in five years what they ...

OK, so I’m a long way from being the first to comment on this, but maybe I’ll be the last? Don’t count on it. In the unlikely event that this is the only CAD blog you ever read, you may be unaware that Autodesk and Bentley have decided to swap code so their respective products can make a better job of writing each other’s drawing formats. The MicroStation DWG interface has traditionally been imperfect. (I ...
