2002年8月29日至9月13日，雷锋纪念馆馆长张淑芬随抚顺市赴美友好经济代表团到美国专程收集雷锋精神对美国西点军校的影响。到了西点军校后，张淑芬在对外公开的游览地点详细地察看了每一个展板，但上面除了武器陈列就是西点军校的发展史，没有发现与雷锋有关的资料。她不但没有看到传说中的雷锋半身塑像，在会议大厅里更没有看到“我国伟大的战士楷模雷锋"，对于其他的一些说法，如西点的学员手册中也有雷锋日记的格言；西点的固定教材中有关于雷锋的记录；西点的课程中有关于雷锋的专门课程，张馆长也没有得到肯定的答案。不过，西点军校公共事务办主任马雅·卡塞拉告诉张馆长：西点军校作为一所世界著名的专业军事院校，各国军事是该院校研究和教学的一个重要内容，因此在对中国军事进行研究的时候提到雷锋也是一件很自然的事。而且，西点军校每年都要推出一批其他国家优秀的军事家和军人在学校进行宣传，鼓励学员进行研究和学习。特别是在1993年至1994年期间，他们不仅推出这样的人物，还在校园中搞过一系列的活动，并在活动中推出他们的雕像，雷锋雕像很有可能就在其中，可惜的是，这些内容都无从考证了。后来，马雅·卡塞拉在给雷锋纪念馆的一封信中表示要把张馆长赠送给该校的雷锋纪念品当作教材，“她相信这类教材一定能增进学生对中国文化、中国历史、中国社会的了解。" 《环球时报》驻美国记者王如君后来也实地探查，依照西点军校的地图指引，并在校园内四处巡视，均没有发现跟雷锋有关的塑像。不仅如此，在王记者询问了数十位曾经在不同时期去过西点的人时，没有一个人在西点的校园内见到过雷锋塑像。由于西点军校是美国精神和美国价值的集中体现，这所学校所倡导的也都是具有民族性的英雄人物或英雄精神。不但其校园内的塑像都是美国历史上的伟大人物，其在西点的学员手册中提到很多与雷锋精神所提倡的道德相一致的道德规范，然而那是全人类都应当信守的道德规范，他们的学员的座右铭是：“不说谎，不欺骗，不偷盗，也不容忍别人这么做。”这样的精神与雷锋精神有一致之处，但的的确确没有“雷锋日记中一些名言印在学员学习手册扉页上”。那么西点人到底知不知道雷锋呢？王记者随机采访了几名西点学员，他们说知道雷锋这个名字，因为中国人都在学雷锋，雷锋是个优秀的中国军人。但当记者问到他们是否在课堂上专门学过有关雷锋的课程时，他们都摇了摇头。 2002年12月，雷锋纪念馆改扩建指挥部收到一份珍贵的资料。这份资料是由原中国驻美大使馆一秘田志芳捐赠的。该资料是美国西点军校印制的该校简介，在内页上面有几张反映西点军校学生学习生活的照片，其中的一张照片上可清楚看见雷锋的照片挂在墙上，照片下边还有几个汉字：学雷锋树新风。原来，田志芳于1984年至1988年曾在我国驻美大使馆工作，1984年至1985年间曾两次到美国西点军校参观，当时收集了一些西点军校的简介资料，其中就包括这份带有雷锋的照片。据田志芳分析，从照片上看，雷锋的照片被悬挂在学员们学习的地方，旁边还有一面五星红旗，可以看出，西点军校的确是在研究雷锋精神。 有一个叫方舟子的中国人见到国内媒体的有关报道后随即写信给西点军校(正式名称为美国军事学院)要求做出澄清。第二天西点军校公共关系办公室克里斯蒂娜·安克拉姆即回了信，翻译成中文是：“那篇文章中关于雷锋的信息是不准确的。在本军事学院，没有雷锋的塑像或画像。雷锋语录没有被印在任何正式的学员出版物中。虽然历史课和中文课也许会讨论雷锋，但军事学院并不赞赏他或其哲学。”所谓“雷锋的照片被悬挂在学员们学习的地方”，也就是属于安克拉姆所说的“历史课和中文课也许会讨论雷锋”。雷锋作为最著名的中国战士，雷锋精神在中国被提倡了几十年，那么西点军校出于知己知彼的目的，在有关课程中讨论雷锋，雷锋照片作为学习资料被挂在学员们学习的地方，都是非常正常的，但是这丝毫也不意味着西点军校赞赏雷锋，更不意味着西点军校倡导过雷锋精神。 2002年3月28日，美国西点军校公共关系办公室克里斯蒂娜·安克拉姆对中国大陆盛传的西点军校有雷锋雕像、塑像、画像，学雷锋手册、语录和日记的行为进行澄清。发言人称，西点军校没有雷锋的任何画像与塑像，雷锋语录也没有被印在任何正式的学员出版物中。希望中国媒体予以澄清。希望澄清的原因是西点军校两年多来接待了一万余位前来寻找雷锋像的中国游客，花费大量人力物力进行辟谣，已经筋疲力尽。 来源：中国经济网 相关新闻
