Comcast Wants to Slow Your Transfers (Again) (2)

The Inquisitr (237) permalink
Comcast is now fighting back against the FCC — and, seemingly, the world — in insisting it has the right to intentionally slow down selected file transfers on its network. The battle began when reporters discovered last year that Comcast was limiting or even blocking BitTorrent transfers by its users. Just weeks ago, FCC commissioners ruled that was a violation of a communication law requiring any ISP to offer unrestricted Internet access. The panel said ...Shared by AJ (154) Drew Olanoff (117)Contribute comment -

Less than 24 hours after the premier of popular TV show Prison Break, P2P file sharers downloaded the episode close to one million times—even though you can watch the show for free, online, at Hulu and Fox.com. Why is this? Wired writer Betsy Schiffman argues it's because file-sharing is habitual and convenient. The fact that one million people downloaded the show within 24 hours—a little less than one-sixth of the 6.5 million people who watched ...Contribute comment -

Well, it had to happen - Spore has hit the intertorrents. Pirates are downloading spores through the intricate series of tubes we call the internet. The Pirate Bay, Mininova and isoHunt all have millions of visitors every day, searching for music, movies, software and especially TV-shows. Together, the three BitTorrent sites serve an impressive 500 million searches each month, and this number is going up every month. The Pirate Bay, Mininova and isoHunt combined achieve over a billion pageviews a month. These are quite remarkable statistics when you consider that together, the trio run on less than 100 servers (cf. ...Shared by adam (715) ani625 (57) Cai Chen (769) d1g1t (278) digits12 (614) Leena (806) Mark (7) NasirJumani (119) Ritu (398) tarman (19) Tibi Puiu (143) Zak M. Over the last week, there was a lot of talk around Comcast instituting a 250 gigabyte cap on your downloads for a 30-day period. The Web's collective opinion has always tended to believe in unmetered, unlimited access to just about anything, without censorship, so the news of restrictions had many up in arms. But the truth is, you'd have to really go out of your way to reach the cap, and be downloading around the ...Shared by carmilevy (18) Drew Olanoff (117) louisgray (111) Mike F (355) Riaz (21) Rick Turoczy (62) Rob (105) Robert Scoble (61)Contribute comment -

La décision de Comcast de limiter l’usage de la bande passante mensuellement à 250GB a été décrite par beaucoup comme la fin de l’internet actuel.
