Thinking about the ignorant, angry atheists who infest the Guardian’s comment pages I realised one thing they have in common with scriptural fundamentalists: they have no idea of history. They live in an eternally dazzling present and they can’t imagine that there is anything outside it. Oh, sure, they have legends — the inquisition, the crusades, the middle ages — but within these legends the actors move, as they do in renaissance paintings, entirely in ...

Last week I wrote about how the friendly and extremely helpful teller at our local bank branch helped me solve an ideological conflict I had with the bank. On Tuesday, too early to receive our new credit cards, I did get a card from the bank. A note card. From the teller. Saying she hopes we enjoy our new cards and that our rewards are going to a great cause. Yes they are. We’ve since ...

Legozilla's totally awesome Woodshop Once again Legozilla posts a totally awesome set to Flickr. Taking a lot of inspriation from Norm Abrams and his New Yankee Workshop, he has recreated a fully equipped wood working shop to minifig scale with LEGO. All of the tools look great, especially the table saw. I also like the little breakroom complete with a fridge and coffee pot. If you aren't familiar with Legozilla's work be sure to browse ...

This morning I asked the question: where does money come from.I illustrated the post with a picture taken on my roadtrip outside an abandoned gas station in Moab, Utah. It turns out it was a pretty good answer to the question. Sorta. The following video seemed to be about as informative a response as any. It's 47 minutes long, but I think it's worth it...

Hello, all! I find myself in a little bit of a tight spot financially and I thought I’d try to raise a little money this week, so I can continue to do things like buy health insurance, eat food, and live inside. I will, in this week, do 100 6×6 inch black and white drawings with a gray tone. I welcome your suggestions! All the original artwork will be available to buy for just $10 ...
