Blame it all on the bloody polluted Mumbai weather. Down with a nasty cold and a headache that refuses to go away (it’s been over 48 hours now). Will Karan Johar ever come out of the closet? A discussion took place between us few women. While some said yes, all in good time. I on the other hand firmly believe that it is something he will take with him to the grave. And there are ...Shared by Sam (0)Contribute comment -

There are certainly many more serious and tragic implications to the terror attacks in India Wednesday than its effect on the film business. But it's testament to the scope of the event that Bollywood did not escape unscathed. The main attack happened at the Taj Mahal, which as Asia correspondents Nyay Bhushan and Jonathan Landreth write in a dispatch, is to Bollywood what the Carlton is to Cannes. And the attacks also targeted a movie ...Shared by Mermaid (12)Contribute comment -

One thing about Dara Singh: The man does not cotton to dinosaurs. He and dinosaurs are, in fact, natural enemies. I haven't finished watching King Kong yet, but I felt that I would be remiss in not sharing the following screencaps with you immediately. After all, it's important work we're doing here.By the way, the King Kong in this picture is not the giant ape you might expect, but rather a bounteously man-boobed fellow wrestler ...Shared by houseinrlyeh (24)Contribute comment -

Shiva Ka Insaaf was India's second 3D movie, and its first in the Hindi language. This might seem irrelevant now, as the only way you can currently see the movie is in two dimensions on a chintzy Shemaroo DVD, but it's still good to know. Otherwise you'd be left perplexed by the number of times that people shove, thrust and hurl all variety of objects directly into the camera for no apparent reason throughout the ...Shared by houseinrlyeh (24)Contribute comment -

No. No! Nooooooaargrghhhh! That's what we screamed during the climax of Parinda. And that's all we're going to say about that.Lovely composition; oh, turbulent waves! We went down to the DVDwallah today with one goal: to officially join the Anil Kapoor fanclub. Several people had suggested Eeshwar as a good Anil-classic (classil?), but DVDwallah ji didn't have it. Instead, we made a bee-line for Parinda, attracted by the cover: a thoughtful-looking Anil, a destraught-looking Nana Patekar (another ...Shared by houseinrlyeh (24)Contribute comment -

MOVIES: Slumdog stars go on media blitz (1)

I liked "Slumdog Millionaire." It's a pretty good, highly entertaining movie; especially the first half, which gives you a rather unsettling glimpse of slum life in Mumbai, and stars actual kids from the slums. That said, it perplexes me that quite a few reviewers are calling it a "masterpiece," including the WSJ's Joe Morgenstern, as we noted last week on SAJAforum. Whatever - I'm not on a crusade against "Slumdog" hype (although the title, it ...Shared by Mermaid (12)Contribute comment -

Every once in a while I have an experience that leads me to think that it might be time to make some radical changes in my cinematic diet. Critics have held up Fashion (the movie) as a reflection of modern India, but in truth it proves Bollywood is just as small-minded as ever. Nirpal Dhaliwal in the Guardian: I have a British friend in Delhi who doesn’t speak Hindi and who has an “inverse relationship” with Bollywood films: the worse they are, the more she can enjoy them. The hammier the acting and the more simplistic the plotline, the easier it becomes for ...Shared by haris (1)Contribute comment -

It’s funny how Who Wants to Be a Millionaire? in its sundry languages and cultures gets under the skin of so many writers and filmmakers. Yes, it’s the enticement of easy money, but there’s something even more insidious: the fluky mixture of tackiness and grandiosity; the questions that mischievously drift from history to science to the most ephemeral of pop-culture ephemera; the option to “phone a friend” — who might well let one down with ...Shared by cdogzilla (0) Michael Nelson (0)Contribute comment -
