This may make it easier for Barack Obama to kick his well-publicized BlackBerry addiction: News that Verizon employees have been snooping through his phone records. Verizon (VZ) said Thursday night that “a number of Verizon Wireless employees have, without authorization, accessed and viewed President-Elect Barack Obama’s personal cell phone account.” Verizon says the phone is a “simple flip-phone,” and not a Berry, and that it has been inactive for several months. But the startling public ...

If you want new wallpapers for your Blackberry cell phone you could try and find sites that are offering them, you could try and create them yourself locally with an image editor or you could use the online service BBsnap which turns Flickr images into BlackBerry wallpapers. BBsnap can be used without registration which is the most user friendly approach. A new wallpaper can be created in just a few steps. It begins by entering ...

Both YouMail and MessageSling have long offered free services that let nearly any cell phone user listen to and manage their voicemail online, in the style of the iPhone's "visual voicemail." The stakes were raised this month when both also announced new transcription services, allowing you to read that call you just missed in a text message or online before actually listening or responding to it. One offers a limited free service, while the other ...

I've been using YouMail as my normal cell phone voicemail and it works well. The web site always seems to be slow to load and isn't the best I've ever seen. I also use GrandCentral and normally give that number out to most people. Their voicemail is also reasonable though the development of that tool has pretty much died. The transcription services might be useful. I really like getting SMS's when I miss a call. Having the text content could make them even more valuable.

We've talked before about how Lipstick Jungle is pretty much exclusively Apple now, and how all three leading ladies have iPhones, but until this week's episode, they all had first generation phones. No longer — tiger shark editrix Nico Reilly is the first one to get an iPhone 3G. Her new iPhone is black, and this placement does make sense for Nico, being the one with the most high-powered, fashion-oriented job. Would she be as ...

Only a minority of cell phone owners have access to a data flatrate. Most have to cope with utterly insane pricing schemes and pay per Megabyte transferred. If you are old enough to remember; That’s how the first Internet Service Providers handled business when the Internet became popular in the Nineties. Some cell phone owners have a free data contingent per month before they have to pay for additional data transfers. The fees are usually ...

I’ve been called a computer addict before. More than once. I have an unending need to be online doing something, regardless of how inane and pointless it may be. With Google, Wikipedia and the like, finding information has never been easier. With YouTube, StumbleUpon and others, having fun is a click away. Only problem is, I’m not always in front of my computer. It’s a frightening prospect. Thankfully, though, there are a ton of ways ...
