ErikTheRed writes "In an audio clip discovered by NewsBusters, then-Deputy Attorney General Eric Holder advocated federal censorship of the Internet. This was in the aftermath of the Columbine High School shootings. From the clip: 'The court has really struck down every government effort to try to regulate it. We tried with regard to pornography. It is gonna be a difficult thing, but it seems to me that if we can come up with reasonable restrictions, ...

Well, isn't this a hoot? As Barack Obama appears to be appointing less than totally pro-surrender officials to his inner circle, far leftists are feeling constrained in their criticism by Obama Mania. A Los Angeles Times article by Paul Richter with an amusing title ("Antiwar groups fear Barack Obama may create hawkish Cabinet") notes that Obama has appointed or is considering many people who originally supported the war in Iraq (this apparently automatically makes them ...

I am in the middle of reading Rob Bell’s latest book and in it he quotes writer Anne Lamott. She says that the most powerful sermon in the world is two words: Me too. The truth of that statement smacked me upside the head. (Not literally. Obviously.) Each and every human being is a completely different creature. My thoughts, my desires, my preferences, my habits, my everything is unique to ME. Out of every single ...

This would be ironically funny as an Onion article, but in real life it's just awful: Hossein Derakhshan, pictured, is a Toronto-based Iranian blogger who has grown more pro-Iran over the past two years, supporting the country's nuclear program and its three-decade-old Islamic revolution in the press. The dual Iranian-Canadian citizen blogs in both English and Farsi and generally tries to help people understand his home country. PR win for Iran and its blogger-in-chief Mahmoud ...

Before Constitution voters start doing a victory dance over the Obama win, lets not forget that threats to free speech come from the left as often as they come from the right. See Unlike Others, U.S. Defends Freedom to Offend in Speech. The article quotes a “legal philosopher” as saying that he isn’t sure that the Europeans are wrong - referring to European restraints on so-called “hate speech.” Of course, it is only “hate speech” ...

Shortly before the April 29th Grand Theft Auto IV launch, the Chicago Transit Authority pulled ads for the game from its vehicles and facilities. Prompting the move was a rash of unrelated shootings in Chicago and a Fox News hit piece that linked GTA IV to the violence, even though the game hadn't yet been released.Just a week later, Take-Two warmed the hearts of censorship opponents by suing the CTA in U.S. District Court for ...

Like most other countries around the world governments are trying hard to enact laws; or publicly shame companies, into censoring the Internet. In most cases; unless you live in China are some other draconian type country, these attempts have to this point been a massive failure. Even though, it still hasn’t stopped governments desperate for votes to keep on trying. The most recent case has been in Australia where the government has been pushing far ...

What can you do when you’re a member of a party that : -has absolutly no ideas -has mediocre leaders -and is unable to win any elections ? The Democrat Party has the answer : lese-majeste of course. It’s not the first time that some MPs try to get their 15 minutes of fames by toying without any shame with the higher institution (read here). But now, they go one step further : with a ...

I had rather be shut up in a very modest cottage with my books, my family and a few old friends, dining on simple bacon, and letting the world roll on as it liked, than to occupy the most splendid post, which any human power can give. —Thomas Jefferson, letter to Alexander Donald, 7 February 1788 What should we seek to get out of life? We have already heard voices in the blogosphere that media people (both bloggers and reporters from traditional media outlets) should be cautious about how we cover various economic events in these hard times as we are partly responsible for what our readers will think and how they will behave. And since it is hardly arguable that the financial crisis is partly due to panic and irrational behavior of traders and investors, this issue definitely deserves ...

Over a year ago, we wrote about the iRobot Looj gutter cleaning robot. At the time, we thought it looked pretty cool, but it turns out that looks aren't even half the story. A fellow who runs a blog called der5er had some hands on experience with the tool and the results are somewhat less than spectacular. ...Add to this the fact that if a pine cone happens to be directly under a gutter support ...
