Posted by Mr. Friday 好啦,我承認這篇標題的是直接翻譯自ReadWriteWeb的評論文章「Steve Jobs Had No Heart Attack… And Citizen Journalism Just Failed.」 Steve Jobs was rushed to the ER just a few hours ago after suffering a major heart attack. I have an insider who tells me that paramedics were called after Steve claimed to be suffering from severe chest pains and shortness of breath. My source has opted to remain anonymous, but he is quite reliable. I haven’t seen ...

Due to a knee jerk reaction on Wall Street because some idiot posted about Steve Jobs having a heart attack on the CNN iReport site there has been an a growing discussion - again - about the concept of citizen journalism. Now just to clarify for those folks coming late to the Web 2.0 and social media game this concept being bandied about is the idea that regular type folks can be an integral part ...

I was going to make two points regarding the discussion of Citizen Journalism in the wake of the fake article posted on CNN’s iReport ‘Unedited. Unfiltered. News.’ The article falsely claimed Steve Jobs had suffered a heart attack, and had a big effect on Apple share prices. Tim Windsor beat me to one of my points, pointing out that the blame for this should lay more with CNN than citizen journalism in general. Many people ...

Someone posted a false report that Steve Jobs had heart attack to CNN’s citizen journalism site iReport. The fallout (which could include an SEC investigation) lead to the inevitable question of whether this is a failure of citizen journalism. It’s not. It’s a failure of open systems. As Sarah Perez points out at ReadWriteWeb, ANYONE can become a citizen journalist on iReport: Apparently, it’s as easy to become a citizen journalist on CNN as it ...

A rumor purporting that Steve Jobs had suffered a heart attack, published on CNN’s citizen journalism site iReport, briefly sent shares of Apple in a freefall this morning. While Apple quickly moved to quell the rumor, telling Silicon Alley Insider that the news was simply “not true,” in light of the recent concerns over Steve Jobs’ health, the news was enough to spark a rapid sell-off of the company’s stock. While it will remain to ...

I often praised Twitter for being first reporting breaking news – typical examples were several recent earthquakes in Japan, China, New Zealand…etc. This morning’s news brought panic, as hundreds of Tweets reported: Steve Jobs was rushed to ER after severe heart attack. AAPL took a nosedive, then recovered. Fortunately the news turned out to be bogus. Citizen journalism failed today. Read the full chronology over @ CloudAve. (Oh, and while at it, you may want ...

The buzz has more or less died down, at least in the pages of Gawker, MediaShift, TechDirt and Romenesko. But our very own Alana Taylor did a feature for PBS blog MediaShift, a commentary really, on the lack of New Media savvy amongst the students and faculty at NYU in a class called “Reporting Gen Y.” She did so by mainly remarking on the irony that in a class full of journalism students, she was ...

i am very anti-censorship but i read an article in today’s sydney morning herald that led to a stream of thoughts. for the most part, journalists are an ethical bunch and adhere to a code. where the areas are grey, an editor steps in and ensures that stories are truthful and conducted in a manner fitting of the publication. in the story above, while the police were trying to safely resolve a potential suicide jumper, ...

I’ve been playing with “CBS EyeMobile,” a new iPhone application (iTunes link) from CBS News, built by Seattle’s Treemo Labs. You can submit photos straight from your iPhone, and browse photos and video clips uploaded by other citizen reporters. As you may know, you can’t shoot video from your iPhone unless you’ve hacked it. (Like many iPhone users, I’m waiting for Apple to unlock the phone’s video capability, both recorded and live.) “Soon we will ...

I’m profoundly enthralled by things like rapid news-driven development in Django, and building a CMS that can switch from a beautiful feature layout to a Drudge-like breaking news linkbomb on a dime, and of course, leveraging the steady stream of free embeddable tools showing up online every day for your own newsy purposes. But none of those pieces of the puzzle I’ve become so interested in these days — on their own, at least — ...

As one of the very early members of the Online News Association, I've attended my share of ONA conferences over the years. This year, I wasn't able to attend the annual gathering that ended in Washington, DC, over the weekend. Instead, I spent most of last weekend at TechCrunch50, a technology conference in San Francisco now in its second year put on by TechCrunch, one of those upstart startups that may put the San Jose ...
