I don't know how many years ago it was that I heard Greg Mitchell say he was on the verge of launching an Editor&Publisher blog. I do know that the setting was New Orleans in the pre-Katrina era. Since then, E&P has continued to limp along, powered by a dismal excuse for a Web content management system administered by what appears to be an exceptionally inept IT department. Fitz and Jen (Mark Fitzgerald, Jennifer Saba) ...

Zimplit is the easiest CMS (Content Management System) ever made. Zimplit is extremely lightweight, simple and customizable. It’s easy to install, and easy to use via a simple web interface. Zimplit consists of only one core engine file. And of course – it’s FREE. It seems Zimplit was made for normal people, not for IT gurus because it is very handy and easy in use and need no technical knowledge. It has an easiest web ...

For the last couple of weeks I've been too busy to blog much. We're working to build the next-generation newspaper website management system. We have an October deadline, which seems a long way off, but it's not. There's a lot of work to do, including complete site redesigns. We're doing this simultaneously for two newspapers that are 1,200 miles apart, and the closest is almost five hours away from our office. And I'm going to ...

A few days ago I got an email from Daniel Bachhuber, who is working with the Oregon Daily Emerald. He wanted to know if I was interested in discussion content management system options for college media. After my time as online managing editor at The Independent Florida Alligator, struggling with a CMS that liked to fight dirty, I’ve daydreamed of building a modular open-source system myself. The problem: College Publisher is an inappropriate platform for ...

Wordpress 2.6 was released just a couple days ago. During the time I have covered Wordpress, I have always considered Wordpress more as blogging application and not really a full featured content management system. However, ever since I installed Wordpress 2.5 on one of my sites, I can't help but think that Wordpress now rocks as a CMS. If you haven't looked at Wordpress in the past year or so, I recommend that you do ...

Social Networking is a preoccupation of mine. Also, as a blogger, WordPress is a key part of my work flow. And a question I keep asking myself is, what if WordPress became a Social Network? Here’s the thing, WordPress already is a Social Network, of a fashion. Once you’re signed in to their main Wordpress public website, all the comments you’ve made on other WordPress-powered blogs are collated for you to revisit at your leisure. ...

WordPress is really evolving past a blog application and moving into some incredible features that blow away the typical CMS. I’m really amazed at how quickly the WordPress upgrades are coming as well as the ingenious features that are being added.

Berlingske Media, Denmark’s biggest publisher of daily newspapers, is considering making free open source software Drupal its online publishing system of choice. Former Mirror-boss David Montgomery’s Danish lieutenant, Lisbeth Knudsen, is contemplating the move, which could save a substantial sum of money - but it does not come without risk. Berlingske Media already runs some of its sites on Drupal - a long-time favourite free content management system (CMS) of web hacker-geeks - but many ...

Apparently, a chord was struck in this recent post “Social Software: Here come the CMS Vendors“. In summary, the post indicuates that CMS vendors are sniffing the community space, and the comments lit up (you should read them) with vendors from both camps indicating this discussions are happening behind the curtains and hands are extending across the aisle. I also am getting more briefing requests from traditional CMS vendors, who are anxious to get my ...
