So the new Star Trek movie isn't exactly a reboot, or a prequel. It's more like a "preboot." And the recent Incredible Hulk was sort of a sequel to Hulk, but sort of a reboot. So everyone described it as a "requel." What's wrong with the world when we need to speak crazy jargon just to understand what's going on with our favorite stories? It's all part of a deliberate strategy to confuse hardcore fans ...

Wondering where to find more The Dark Knight-style Joker now that we're years away from a sequel (and Heath Ledger is... unavailable)? Crime writer Brian Azzarello would like to draw your attention to a little graphic novel he's been working on that he promises is "so ugly - in a good way." The book, Joker was originally going to have a much more familiar title, before corporate synergy dropped by to say hello, according to ...

One movie that many a comic book fan is looking forward to is a big screen adaptation of Green Lantern. Much like Iron Man, the Green Lantern has been under the radar of mainstream audiences, but has an amazing fan following. And under the right circumstances, he too can rise out of cinematic ashes and become another great comic book movie franchise. The Green Lantern movie, which is being targeted for a 2010 release, is ...

A federal judge in Los Angeles has set Jan. 6 as the trial date for 20th Century Fox’s lawsuit against Warner Bros. over the rights to the Watchmen movie. According to Variety, U.S. District Court Judge Gary Allen Feess indicated the case isn’t suitable for the preliminary injunction that Fox had sought because the issues are too complex to be resolved on an interim basis. Feess wants the case to move quickly, and has asked ...

Attorneys for 20th Century Fox and Warner Bros. laid out plans for the legal battle over Watchmen in a report filed Friday in federal court in Los Angeles. The New York Times points out that Warner Bros., which says that Fox “sat silently” as producer Lawrence Gordon took Watchmen “to studio after studio with Fox’s express knowledge,” seems ready to draw Gordon, Paramount Pictures, Legendary Pictures and Universal Pictures into the fight. None of those ...

One of the funnier videos to hit the YouTube circuit this past year was “Robin’s Big Date,” which starred Justin Long as Robin, working up the nerve to ask out a girl he’s got a crush on, only to be blocked by Batman, played by Sam Rockwell. According to a recent interview with MTV, Rockwell and Long are planning on producing another Batman and Robin short, this time with some possible guest stars. “We still ...

A 20-minute LEGO Batman cartoon is being developed using the same engine as the upcoming video game. Although details are sketchy, a producer for U.K.-based developer Traveller’s Tales tells GameIndustry.biz the cartoon will be a one-shot, at least initially, created “by a separate studio in the States.” Warner Bros. bought Traveller’s Tales late last year. “My understanding is that they will use the engine, the Maya files where the characters come to life, but they’ll ...

We don’t have very many opportunities to talk video games here on FSR, but I have mentioned Mortal Kombat vs. DC Universe before. If you aren’t familiar with it, basically you match up your favorite Mortal Kombat fighters against some of your favorite DC comic book heroes and villains. When Batman and Superman were mentioned as usable characters, that drew alot of attention. Now that the Joker has also been named a fighter, people (including ...

I’ve written previously about the role of “plot” in corporate superhero serials. I’ve also written about the need to honor forms of creative expression. Last week, reporting on the long-promised, finally-announced Marvels sequel, Tom Spurgeon mentioned both: Marvels was also kind of an odd book in that — as more than a few critics have noted — it’s best remembered for a kind of wistful re-imagining of superheroes from the vantage point of people on ...

Apparently, custom ponies have become big on the collector’s market. And some of them are downright nerderific. These ain’t your little sister’s Ponies.
