I spent the past 5 days at Big Bend National Park. This park is located in extreme SW Texas and offers an abundant amount of hiking trails and breathtaking views. You don’t have to hike to get some scenic views, but you definitely get more by doing so. Most of the hikes had to be done early as the temperature in parts of the park rose above 95. In the desert, there is no shade. ...

Photosynth, a Microsoft Live Labs project previously available as a view-only tech preview, now lets those signed up with Windows Live to upload and create their own multi-photo walk-through panoramas. The webapp, which requires an 8MB software installation on the user's side, can stitch together dozens or hundreds of photos and then let viewers "walk" through them, altering perspective and creating entirely new views from the details of all those shots. That means you not ...

(Tell A Lie Series by Hadlow + Cornish) This Summer, graphic designer Henry Hadlow created a series of images with friend Ed Cornish called “Tell A Lie.” The designers came up with the concept as a response to the doctoring and misrepresentation of images in photojournalism as a result of Photoshop. Hadlow + Cornish’s project makes a very creative statement about ethics and integrity when portraying news in the digital media age. As a photojournalist, ...

Don't ditch your classic Xbox just because you can't play Halo 3 on it: nowadays it's easier than ever to transform that old neglected console into a Unix-based media command center. While early Xbox hackers had to pry open the black box to solder on a modchip, today a software exploit lets you replace Microsoft's crippled dashboard and run the incredible, open source Xbox Media Center (XBMC) software. You don't have to be a hardcore ...

Yesterday I spent a couple hours in Perth, Ontario. Stewart Park in Perth is one of the nicest community parks in Lanark County. The Tay River runs through the middle of the park and at the upper end of the park is a foot bridge. This photo is of the water running over a small dam which is located under the foot bridge.

Ho-lee crap. Now I’ve seen it all (no pun intended). This camera, called the Touch Sight, was developed by Chueh Lee of Samsung China. The basic short and sweet is that you hold the camera against your forehead and when you snap a photo, the camera grabs the image and converts it to braille. So you can actually feel the image against your forehead. It also grabs three seconds of sound, making it easier to ...
