If you hear a familiar metallic shriek of "Exterminate! Exterminate!" echoing around Bristol, it may not mean that the cruel Daleks have invaded England. Leonard, an African Grey parrot, had just perfected his spot-on Dalek impression, when he mysteriously went missing. (Coincidence? Or Davros experimenting on a new source of Dalek mutants?) Leonard, who lives in an antique shop, also does the theme from Mission Impossible, "YMCA," and a couple of Village People songs. Here's ...

Calling all “Doctor Who” fans! The first big screen adventure for “Doctor Who” has become a glimmer on the horizon, a teeny glimmer, but a glimmer just the same. From the title of the article over at The Hollywood Reporter you’d think there was a solid deal in the works for a film version of “Doctor Who”. It appears to more rumination than reality at this point. Steven Moffat, who has won BAFTA awards for ...

Doctor Who could be heading for the big screen in the next few years. At least, new showrunner Steven Moffat told the Edinburgh International Television Festival that he thought a big-screen Who would be a good idea — as long as it didn't interfere with the filming of the TV show. BBC Fiction Controller Jane Tranter also said she "wouldn't rule out" a Who film last year. At his presentation over the weekend, Moffat also ...

There is a huge difference between "we can see a film happen" and "there will be a film". And as long as the TV series continues and is the priority -- because I don't think Who is a great feature film concept -- all is well.

Doctor Who is going to be in short-supply, next year. We’ll get the traditional Christmas special in a couple months, but 2009 is an off year for the Time Lord; there will be a series of movies, instead of a regular, full season of episodes. Even Torchwood will be relatively scarce, foregoing a normal season in ‘09 for a week-long miniseries. Doctor Who fans are a bit screwed, for the forseeable future. If you’re in ...

Want to see Donna Noble return to Doctor Who? You're not alone; talking to Doctor Who Magazine, Catherine Tate has admitted that she'd like to play Donna again: "I knew that there would definitely be an end to Donna, at the end of the series. But had that not been the case, had it been open-ended, had there been potential for Donna to stay on for another series, I must confess that I'd have said ...

The most recent Doctor Who season finale may have left you wondering exactly how Rose Tyler's new boyfriend is going to cope with it all. He's stuck in a world that's not quite his own, and he's not quite who he seems to be. And he's not really the guy Rose wants. How will it all play out? Luckily, he's got a livejournal account and has been blogging steadily about his rather pathetic life. Sample ...

Why are people still so crazed over Heath Ledger's Joker after a month in theaters? Maybe because he's the first villain we've seen in ages who didn't kind of lick. The problem of villain suckage is endemic in heroic narratives, where villains get redeemed, become sympathetic, or lose their menace too easily. We've got a 7-point diagnosis for villain anemia, plus a "unified theory" of how to make villains awesome, and why they matter. Spoilers ...

You may have noticed that the second season of alien-shagging show Torchwood was less saucy, and more mainstream, than the first. This was partly because the show aired "kid-friendly" versions of the episodes as repeats during primetime. But it was also due to the show's move from the digital-only channel BBC3 to the broadcast channel BBC2. And now the show is moving to BBC1, the BBC's flagship channel, and airing its five-part storyline "Children Of ...

Have the Daleks been rendered dramatically impotent by overuse in Doctor Who? That's the theory behind a new essay online, whose author argues that we've seen too much wholescale destruction to allow Russell T Davies' favorite alien overlords to seem threatening ever again. Digital Spy's Ben Rawson-Jones feels that we've not only seen too much of the Daleks, but we've also see them completely destroyed too many times: Rose Tyler's absorption of the Tardis vortex ...

If the Large Hadron Collider does go wrong and suck the world into a black hole, you can blame the hapless gang at Torchwood. As we mentioned before, a special Torchwood radio episode, taking place at the LHC, will be broadcast on Sept. 10, dubbed "Big Bang Day" because it's the day that scientists will use the LHC to recreate the launch of the universe.
