The much-maligned SATs predict college graduation, writes Peter Salins, a SUNY-Stony Brook political science professor, in the New York Times. Some SUNY campuses decided to rely more heavily on SAT scores in admissions; others continued to rely on high-school grade-point averages. Those that stressed SATs saw gains in graduation rates: Old Westbury doubled its (pathetically low) six-year completion rate of 18 percent. At the GPA-centric campuses, graduation rates declined. Discriminations asked Salins about socioeconomic factors ...

Imagine this, you're out driving... [Reality references in brackets at the bottom of the post]But the windshield is not there, instead you have a standardised set of reports [1] coming up on a "dashboard" in front of you [2].The reports are supposed to give you an idea as to where you are heading and what dangers might lurk, or jump out from the kerb. The reporters are not in the cabin, they're under the bonnet somewhere, ...

Having written a fair bit recently about Agile/Scrum, I found the following post provided an interesting perspective. The Agile Disease by Luke Halliwell I don’t agree with everything the Luke wrote, but a lot of his points make sense. A lot of the benefit of Scrum is handled if people simply use common sense with whatever process they use. I’m happy to say that at my current company, we just put out a major release ...

Microsoft offers zero percent financing on Dynamics ERP and CRM. Given the economy and the credit crunch, it must make a lot of sense, right? Not really. In ERP, licensing the product is far from being the most significant cost. Training, implementation, change management, additional hardware, additional software (like database), third party software components that goes with the new package (add ons are common addition to ERP implementations) make the money you spend with Microsoft ...

It looks as though the problem with mmap() is that the filesystem doesn’t support making mmap()ed files writable which prevents Dalvik as currently implemented from optimizing its Dex file, which prevents it from starting. A workaround for this is to provide Dalvik with an optimized Dex file we prepared earlier. If you do then you get this
