Submitted by Jeffrey Botts I have found this tool to be invaluable for troubleshooting Exchange issues. Here is a description from the website: ExInsight is a monitoring and statistics tool that provides a real-time view of the internals of Exchange Server transactions and allows you to evaluate individual user’s usage of Exchange Server. This tool is especially useful for Exchange administrators and developers. By using this tool, you can gather real-time data about the users ...

Let the wars begin! Just kidding. Actually, I ask the question because I think the answer (for most churches) is BOTH. I just talked with 2 guys that do video at 2 different larger churches and they use both Avid and FinalCut. In the world of Church IT (which I’ll blog more about later), there seems to be a either-or mindset and after talking to a few geek friends, plus Tony Steward (who is just ...

I started typing this blog post at 07:21. Outlook has already received the first 50 items of the day. Most of which were from night-owls in the US, a few from Asia/Pacific, and only a couple from European insomniacs. Yesterday it pulled down at least 426. I know this because yesterday I set up 3 new search folders. I'm not 100% sure when search folders came into Outlook - and which version of Exchange they ...

If you have second hand items (or new ones) that you are going to throw away, why not swap them with something else? Of course, you also have a choice of selling them on eBay or on other web advertisement services. If you are lucky, you may get some good money out of it. If the item is a few years old, then good luck! Some time I’d rather give it away to my friend ...

While Software as a Service (Saas) has been delivered to the consumer market for well over a decade, it is a relatively new phenomenon in the enterprise. For example, more people use web-based email (Yahoo! Mail, Hotmail, AOL Mail, and Gmail) than enterprise solutions (Exchange, Notes, Sendmail). The key strategic drivers of SaaS. 1. Offers a lower total cost of ownership. Let’s assume that the cost of buying, deploying, and maintaining Exchange is a fixed ...

Here’s a surprise benefit from the iPhone 2.0 Exchange ActiveSync ability: I was able to finally move my iPhone’s “home” sync from the PC to the Mac! I’m a long-time iPhone user and new Mac switcher, but since I use the phone for business (read Exchange) email, contacts, and calendars, I was stuck syncing it to the (work) PC instead of the (home) Mac. This really wasn’t optimal, as it meant I needed to load ...

Bernard’s title @ ReadWriteWeb, Breaking Free of Outlook perfectly matches my own sentiment: in fact I called the MS Client Outlook-prison repeatedly. Unlike Bernard, I escaped from prison in stages: First Using Gmail to boost non-gmail productivity Next using Gmail servers with my own domain but still in the Outlook client Finally breaking entirely free, using Gmail natively (web interface). This was part of a bigger move, ditching almost all desktop software, moving online. (Gmail ...

Xobni offers a new way to organize and search your Outlook email. Xobni creates profiles for each person that emails you. These profiles contain relationship statistics, contact information, social connections, threaded conversations, and shared attachments. I’ve been increasingly interested in how the ever growing popularity of social networking sites would ...

His powerpack for Exchange 2003 has 53 (!) different nodes/links/actions exposing features ranging from mailbox and server management to address books and message queues. Existing customers have been moved to the new platform, but for some (Apple claims 1%) it’s a disaster. They’ve been unable to ...

This is not an extensive comparison but simply a collation of observations so ...
