Guest-blogging on infosthetics.com is a tricky proposition. Since my last post the majority of things I've wanted to talk about have already been covered by our diligent host, Andrew. Thankfully I stumbled upon this gem [flickr.com] from the charts and graphs group at Flickr. It shows a 2D plot of genetic similarity across Europe, colour-coded by country, alongside a political map of Europe using the same colours. A simply striking way to illustrate the complex ...Shared by _original (297) Bill Welense (149) function/form (73) GG (578) itsoinky (175) Juan C. The Stamford edition of Kitchen Nightmares aired last night but it is already up on Hulu (amazing site if you’ve never been). I sadly did not make the filming cut. I think Stamford Talk did though (am I reading that comment right?) and already has a pretty healthy talkback going on about it with her post. I’m not even through the whole episode and all I can say is WOW! What a shithole this place ...Shared by Nathaniel Dean (114)Contribute comment -

Those interested in assessing the possible influences of judicial ideology on decisions will want to read a recent paper, What is Judicial Ideology, and How Should We Measure It?, by Joshua Fischman (UVa) and David Law (Wash U.). An excerpted abstract follows."Scholars have for decades sought to measure judicial ideology and its impact on judicial behavior. They have not, however, taken care to identify the phenomenon that they are measuring in clear and convincing terms, ...Shared by Derek (51) Ozan (4)Contribute comment -

I am the seventh child of nine. Star Trekkies chuckle a dorky chortle when I tell them this fact. Anyone else doesn’t blink (well, except to say whoa that’s a big family). It’s turned out to be a good geek-filter…when it comes to first impressions, telling someone you are seven of nine can actually reveal quite a lot about a person. (Note: I have not made any direct judgments about geeks–I have only stated that ...Shared by Daniel Bartholomew (6)Contribute comment -

Teaching people how to use new tools on the internet is hard. Learning through experience is the most effective method, but it's slow. More and more of us are finding ourselves teaching other people how to use new web apps and services - sometimes professionally. Though you, elite readers, might consider getting excited about apps that are a year or two old to be painfully behind the times, the fact is that there is huge ...Shared by Holger (13)Contribute comment
