It appears that some of Kevin Rose's predictions about iTunes 8 have been corroborated by other tipsters to MacRumors, which says that there's going to be a "Genius" feature that generates playlists containing songs that have similar qualities to other songs. MacRumors calls this unconfirmed because they didn't receive the tip from one of their trusted sources, apparently. Other Kevin Rose predictions such as a "trippy" visualization with "planet like objects" and downloadable TV shows ...

Pirelli plans to introduce two tires in 2010 with computer chips either glued to the inner liner (Cyber Lean) or embedded into the carcass (Cyber Tyre). The simpler Cyber Lean will gather data such as pressure, temperature and average load. Data can then be sent to the car’s on-board computer to inform the driver. The [...]

This has been one of those weeks where I start to question things (you may be questioning why Pammy is on my blog?! Slow down dear reader, I'll get to it).My son started off two weeks ago with gastro, which then went into croup, which then morphed into an ear infection. My babe has had bronchiolitis during this time too. It has been a pretty prickly time, and last week when I said I needed ...

Who is Alexander Grothendieck? [PDF] This lecture is concerned not with Grothendieck's mathematics but with his very unusual life on the fringes of human society. In particular, there is, on the one hand, the question of why at the age of forty-two Grothendieck first of all resigned his professorship at the Institut des Hautes Etudes Scientifiques (IHES); then withdrew from mathematics completely; and finally broke off all connections to his colleagues, students, acquaintances, friends, as ...

Video game guru Shigeru Miyamoto (the man behind such franchises as Mario, Donkey Kong, Zelda, and more recently Brain Age and Wii Fit) has been asked by Nintendo to not discuss his personal hobbies. Why? Because it reveals what Nintendo has in the works. At least, that's the reasoning behind an item in The Times of London. The piece connects some dots -- Miyamoto loves puzzles, Brain Age follows; Miyamoto interested in exercise, Wii Fit ...

The Wake n' Bacon is a collaborative alarm clock design by Matty Sallin, Daniel Bartolini and Hsiao-huh Hsu. It wakes you up with the delicious scent of bacon instead of beeping. How? A frozen strip of bacon is placed in Wake n' Bacon the night before. Because there is a 10 minute cooking time, the clock is set to go off 10 minutes before the desired waking time. Once the alarm goes off, the clock ...

This is Stephen Hawking in LEGO form. I have no idea of the maker's intentions, but it was posted with this comment: Professor Stephen Hawking, CH, CBE, FRS, Lucasian Professor of Mathematics - Cambridge University. BEST WISHES ON YOUR TRIP TO THE STARS So I'm thinking the person was being genuine. Regardless, I think we can all agree that Hawking is one of the most brilliant minds of our time and I'm dumb as hell. ...

In the years after leaving MST, Joel Hodgson of Mystery Science Theater, and his "smarter brother" Jim Hodgson, worked on a new movie-repurposing concept for USA Networks. The introduction for the test clip read: "The Jolly Filter segment is a proof of concept test for a new film process. You will first view 2 minutes of the original film 'Rollercoaster' and then the same 2 minutes utilizing the JollyFilter technique. "Note: If you find yourself ...

Most people remember George Carlin for flaunting the unspeakable Seven Dirty Words on live television. Sure, he pushed the envelope and paved the way for comics like Richard Pryor and Eddie Murphy. Yeah, he was Saturday Night Live’s first guest host in 1975. Of course he was a prolific life-long comedian who put out 25 albums. But what I’m loving today about Carlin is something else. I was listening to Carlin’s interview on Fresh Air with ...

I have long been in love with the Utter Inn, a cherry-red hotel sitting smack in the middle of a Swedish lake. As you fall asleep, you can watch the fishies in the underwater bedroom; when you wake up, you can swim or row an inflatable canoe into town!Well, now I'll be adding this floating house (in the Midwest, no less!) to my daydreams, too. See more photos here. Awesome.

My new friend Kate Hutchinson always sees this kid riding his Big Wheel around their neighborhood. A few weeks ago, he was dressed in a suit, so she figured that he must have just gotten home from a formal event. But when she chatted with his grandfather, she discovered that he had come home from school and decided to dress like Mr. Bean for the rest of the day! What an awesome little dude!

Here’s a cool beer can handle. How could you not think of this before? It’s genius! This is the scene. You have a nice cold beer in your hand enjoying a hot summer breeze when someone bumps in to you and your frosty brew fall out of your hand an spills on the ground. What a waste. If only you were able to hold on to the can better. Now you can. Beerhandle snap securely ...
