RunPee, that great website that tells you precisely the best time to run and pee during a movie so you don't miss anything good, has taken the next step and released an iPhone app for quick reference. The RunPee app features a countdown that lists all of the most opportune times to dash away, and like the site, it'll tell you what happened during your pee break. We're a little bit iffy on people constantly ...

For the iPhone 3GS, for which the new Pocket Universe is designed, you get full-on astronomical augmented reality. Using location ...

Apple has pulled BeautyMeter—the iPhone/iPod touch app that allowed users to upload naked pictures of themselves for others to rate—after a 15-yo girl published this picture showing her bare breasts and pubic hair. Charlie Sorrel at Wired argues correctly that Apple will be damned with 17+ apps no matter what: The problems for Apple are clear. By setting itself up as a guardian of the store, Apple can't win. Any time a controversial application is ...

Sakhr is a translation company with big clients like the U.S. Department of Defense and Homeland Security. They specialize in English/Arabic translation, and this demo of their iPhone/Blackberry app (not publicly available) looks like the Holy Grail of translation software. You hold a button, say a phrase and the software captures the information through speech recognition. The text is then translated into either Arabic or English (in the cloud, we believe) and then read aloud ...

It's five dollars. It has half the functionality of Twittelator Pro. But Birdfeed just became my default iPhone Twitter app. It's fast. The fastest Twitter app I've seen since Twitterfon (which isn't that fast anymore, once it started inserting ads.) The user interface is even cleaner and more spare than Tweetie's—the app it will inevitably be compared to the most. For instance, the "load more" button at the bottom is gone—you just keep scrolling down, ...

Console emulators were one of the first orders of business when the jailbreak scene took off two years ago, but they've always been plagued by stuttering framerates—especially the more ambitious ones. The iPhone 3GS fixes this, gloriously. Jailbreak stalwart ZODTTD has ported GBA and PSX emulators to the 3GS (which isn't quite jailbroken yet), and the results are stunning, even in light of the promising benchmarks we've already seen. Most impressive? As you can see ...

Bad news: the first app to use in-app pricing in the App Store is a huge ripoff. Gokivo, is a $1 turn-by-turn directions app. Want to actually use it? That'll be $1/minute, $3/10 minutes or $10/month. Updated. Even worse is that when it was first released, the description included no mention of these charges, tricking people into spending $1 on a worthless app. They've since updated it, fortunately, but the pricing remains.
