Windows/Mac: Email client and attachment aggregator Postbox shows off its Mozilla roots by adding support for add-ons—many of them out of the Thunderbird community—in its latest beta release. Update: Apologies for the typos and incomplete headline in an earlier version, the result of an accidental publish button pushing. Given the sheer amount of media Postbox organizes in any email account, add-ons could be an exciting possibility for Postbox, as developers write tools to make use ...

Windows/Mac/Linux: Popular network analyzer Wireshark threw a lot of useful features into its 1.2 update, giving net traffic watchers OpenStreetMap+GeoIP integration, new capture file support, and other updates. The previously featured utility is just as net-geeky as ever, showing packet movements as they happen along DNS, TCP, UDP, and other protocols and interfaces. On top of that, the app formerly known as Ethereal added a bunch of conveniences and tweaks: Display filters now autocomplete. A ...

Firefox 3.5: Weave, Mozilla's add-on to synchronize bookmarks, passwords, and now preferences and automatic logins across Firefox browsers, updated to a 0.4 beta, just in time for the release of 3.5—which could happen tomorrow, by the way. We've previously covered Weave's major release, albeit still as an experimental product, and found ourselves intrigued at its plans to provide automatic web site logins. This release includes those automatic logins and OpenID support, for sites that support ...

It's disappointing that Snow Leopard doesn't promise many major new Finder features, but with the right tweaks and plug-ins, you can make browsing files on your Mac significantly better. Firefox: Ubiquity, the experimental Firefox extension that works as an ultimate Firefox command line, grows into a 0.5 release with better non-English language support, smarter parsing of text input, and, perhaps best of all, a helpful step-by-step tutorial for newcomers.
