This week as I was browsing the new products in the store, I really had to narrow down my list for the spotlight! There are so many new kits, templates, alphas, stock photos and more. Makes me wish I could stay home and scrap all day! Here are a few new items I know I can’t wait to play with! Don’t you love when you think of something you’ll need for a page and a ...

Aliens didn't build these ancient urban structures, but the Mayan culture that did is so remote (roughly 1500 years old) that their architecture feels alien. Partly this is because of the mysterious collapse of the urban Mayan empire, in which people abandoned the cities full of these giant monuments, moving into smaller cities and farm regions where the descendants of Mayans live to this day. These photographs, by Kenneth Garrett for National Geographic, capture the ...

Interstellar Sugar - Suryummy from Suryummy on Vimeo. Friend of CDMo Suryummy shares this audiovisual motion sequence, imagining what the world would be like if you cooked … in … outer space. Good stuff. And no, The Frugal Gourmet hasn’t been dropping acid. (Suryummy does suggest that this could be Bowie with a cooking show, which I like.) But Suryummy does share his tools: Maya Adobe CS3 Particular Ableton Live Native Instruments Reaktor Native Instruments ...

To balance yesterday’s slightly pessimistic post, I came across this brilliant statistic yesterday whilst doing some research - the average web page has tripled in size over the last 5 years and the average number of objects has doubled. Objects are defined as: “images, audio, video, and external CSS and JavaScript files.” I think this is interesting because it’s another symptom of the fact that sites are increasingly collections of different services but it also ...

I was a bit remiss in not contextualizing Martin Böttger’s work with his other generative 3D forms. I’ve been thinking a lot lately about the potential of 3D – not because I’m especially talented with it, quite the opposite. I’m drawn to the expressiveness of 3D the way someone longs to play a cello. Martin has done some great stuff in making 3D forms in Processing, as well as in actual physical space. No fancy ...

Filed under: Culture, Mac, PC While taking us through an exhaustive hands-on with Spore, Maxis producer Thomas Vu told us that there was a "strong possibility" that the company would allow you to export your creations - creatures, buildings and vehicles - from the game into 3D modeling/animation program Maya. Vu said it wouldn't be a stretch for other 3D-creation apps (e.g. Lightwave, 3D Studio Max) to be made compatible, too. Also likely exportable is ...
