In a continuing series of scenarios that explore educational fair use issues. You comments are most welcome. Miguel, a high school civics instructor, wants to use a short portion of the movie The Candidate to spur discussion on election reform in his class. To embed the the clip into his slide show, he will need to "crack" the copy protection scheme on the commercial DVD. What is the copyrighted material? Who owns it? Does the ...

PowerPoint is almost a DE-FACTO standard for making and running presentation almost anywhere on the Blue Planet. And yes indeed Office 2007 PowerPoint is rich in UI and features. But OpenOffice isn’t far behind as well, with it’s version 3 just popping out from the oven this October. But what if now that you’re tired of making the same old presentations with the same old templates available on Microsoft Office? Well here comes SlideRocket to ...

Filed under: HDTV, Home Entertainment It looks like Mvix USA, a company known for their media streamers, has really pulled out all the stops with their new NAS. The MvixBOX has two drive bays (1.5TB SATA HDDs not included), Windows file sharing, an RSS client, a Bit Torrent client, telnet and secure SMTP. If that isn't enough, it's also an FTP server, an Apache web server (with MySQL, SQlife and PHP pre-installed) and features Mvix's ...

Filed under: Laptops Having been privy to a few leaked Dell PowerPoint presentations in our day, we can say without reservation that they know how to blow that stuff out. Roadmaps? Charts? Bullet points? They've got it all, and this new Latitude E series presentation is no different. Sure, the subject matter is a little dry: reliable, boringbooks for businesses, but there are a few gems in here. The basic thing to get down is ...
