The reason for DICE delaying the PC release of Mirror's Edge may be a little clearer. DICE are retooling the PC version with enhanced graphics and - video card permitting - the NVIDIA PhysX engine to allow more accurate physics modelling of the virtual cityscape and the many, many things that can realistically fall off it. As you can see in the trailer (after the jump) it does look rather lovely. Suitably equipped PC owners ...

We’ve found the real-life Faith. Or two. While searching through Getty Images’ database, we stumbled upon pictures of models dressed up as the parkouring protagonist. They were taken at a “Mirror’s Edge” launch event held in Milan, Italy last week. Take a look to see if they match up to the virtual wall-scaling maven… [All photos by Vittorio Zunino Celotto/Getty Images.] Related Posts: Game Diary - November 6, 2008: She’s No Killer EA Discusses ‘Mirror’s ...

I apologize in advance for any aneurysms you may have from the mispronunciation of words in this week's podcast, but hopefully Jinny, Qais, Ross and John Forster will be entertaining enough to outweigh any vocab vitriol. This week we discuss what games are more worth your money than others, and we dabble in the philosophy behind their very existence, and the greater good of gaming as a whole. Mirror's Edge is also discussed, and we ...

The image above is a little bit of Deus Ex 3 concept art from Eidos Montreal, the crack design team who broadened our sexual horizons with Fear Effect and taught us that controlling sociopathic murders is boring as sin with Kane & Lynch. I can imagine the dialogue between the artists and producers when this image was submitted for approval: "What do you got for us today, concept artists?" "Check dis!" "This isn't Deus Ex! ...

Clive “The Animal” Thompson wrote an interesting analysis of Mirror’s Edge. The game is essentially a parkour simulator that gives the illusion that you, inside your character, are actually running, jumping, and rolling over things in the real world. The game tells the tale of a messenger in a police state who has to evade attackers. Because EA added feet, hands, and thighs to the things your character sees as she jumps around the city, ...

Filed under: Mac, PCclick to play Mirror's Edge 2D Here's the thing: A lot of different people read Joystiq. We once met a 142-year-old woman who read Joystiq every morning before heading out to hunt for her meals. Then, there was that 3-month-old infant whose uncanny ability to read the site was only surpassed by his 6-digit gamerscore. What we're saying here is that we've learned to never pigeonhole our audience. And with that lesson ...

Mirror's Edge 2D should be pretty self-explanatory. Despite dropping a D, the Flash-based sidescrolling experience is still pretty deep. Sure, it's not as cute as that LittleBigPlanet-built take on Mirror's Edge, but it is a helluva lot more accurate. Built by Borne Games, aka Brad Borne, creator of Fancy Pants Adventures, Mirror's Edge 2D is still in beta, but EA reps tell us that the full version is expected to launch in two to three ...

Mirror’s Edge is a first person action-adventure game that features French free-running art parkour as the primary means of movement, combat, and puzzle-solving. Players take the role of Asian twenty-something Faith Connors and guide her across the rooftops and through the buildings of a totalitarian society where “runners” like her are the only means for freedom of communication. The plot hinges on Faith’s sister Kate and a government cover-up of a murder – both of ...

Regardless of how Mirror's Edge will be received by critics — though it seems to be doing pretty well so far — it has certainly struck a chord with gamers. The first level from Mirror's Edge recreated in Portal likely took a hell of a lot more work, but its counterpart creation in LittleBigPlanet is still charmingly impressive. As soon as EA releases a Faith Sackboy costume — which we're sure will be "premium" — ...

Filed under: Reviews It's very rare to pick up a game and think to yourself "this is the beginning of a new genre." But, that's exactly what Mirror's Edge is. It wasn't too long ago EA and DICE unveiled the game with a stunning gameplay trailer that had us all asking: "is this really possible?" The answer is a resounding "yes."Mirror's Edge has almost everything going for it. The innovative first-person parkour gameplay, meshed with ...

And let's make no mistake, that's exactly what this is: Bold, fresh game design that feels like nothing you've touched before. But we'd be remiss to forget ...

Two nuggets of Mirror's Edge news fresh from the courier's satchel - the PC version of the free running game will be taking the scenic route to arrive in early 2009 and will be turning up at the same time as a load of cross-platform DLC for the game. So, that PS3 Exclusive DLC? Well, we have no idea - maybe DICE have cooked up an exclusive pair or downloadable trousers or something - but ...

I recall my old Apple IIC computer. Small as today’s notebook PCs, it had a monitor with a 8-inch screen, and a disk drive that took 5.25-inch floppies. And that was it for memory. It had to boot up with the operating system in the drive. Once loaded, I’d have to load AppleWriter in order to process words. Want to save a doc? Slip in a floppy. Want to open a second doc? Close the ...

I found myself chatting to Rhianna Pratchett yesterday about her just released comics spin-off of Mirror’s Edge. Well - the first part of six anyway (First pages here). It’s been interesting for her. As she tells to CBR, it’s her first work in the medium, and she had to do some serious thinking about its strengths and limitations before doing so. Which got me casually thinking a little more on the topic, but from the ...
