Yes, C++ is questionable. But is it better than C? I posture that yes, it is. Every time you use C, you could be safer by simply renaming your source file from .c to .cc. Just keep imagining that you're still using C, and just put extern "C" around your whole thing if you want you library to be binary compatible (which you should put anyway if you used C, for the C++ users).
