Filed under: Warlock, Virtual selves, Odds and ends, News items, NPCs, Wrath of the Lich King Blizzard has put together two new TV spots for the holiday season. The first, seen above, features Steven van Zandt (better known as Silvio Dante on The Sopranos, but also a real-life performer in Bruce Springsteen's band) spouting an old Godfather III reference (that a lot of returning fans are probably saying to themselves after re-entering Warcraft for level ...

On Monday, Cliff Kuang wrote a reasoned plea in favor of a government-sponsored bailout for automakers in Detroit. Today, just for the sake of entertaining the other side of the argument, we’d like to link to a counterpoint penned by the former Massachusetts governor (and GOP presidential candidate) Mitt Romney. He references his father’s work at American Motors, a company that was only able to make strides toward success after the total collapse of its ...

The iPhone and Android platforms have validated a number of things; below is a list with some of such things: iPhone: Applications are at the center of next generation of handsets. That software, not hardware, is the main driver and differentiator. Touch-screens rock! Everyone knew it, but Apple showed the world how. The mobile web is important, that there is no One Web, and that handset-specific customized mobile websites will continue to be built. That ...

When I was a teenager I read a lot of sci-fi and fantasy. A heck of a lot. Favourite authors included J R R Tolkein, Ursula Le Guin, Andre Norton, Isaac Asimov, Philip K Dick, and Alan Garner. I haven't read much sci-fi for a while, although I sometimes dip into Tolkein's The Lord of the Rings and Le Guin's Earthsea trilogy. But when I read a Times review of Paul McAuley's The Quiet War, ...

Michael Moore has supposedly decided to rework his latest documentary to focus on the United State’s recent economic problems and the global financial crisis. Originally set around the United State’s foreign policy and the aftermath of the Bush administration, THR says that the yet-to-be-titled film will now have a “end-of-the-empire tone”, which Moore hopes will give it “a more general feel that will untether it from a specific political moment.” Once referred to as a ...

Last weekend saw the grand opening of Britain’s first ‘eco-nightclub’, “Club4Climate”. The London club features a high-tech dance floor that generates power from the people who are dancing on it. The dancer’s body movements cause the floor to generate an electric charge that is said to produce an estimated 60% of the club’s energy needs. From Atypical Events: Club4Climate was started by a property developer named Andre Charalambous, who goes by the alias of “Dr.Earth.” ...
