I’ve seen quite a few of the Japanese pinky violence films made by Toho studios in the 70s, but Stray Cat Rock: Sex Hunter is the first example I’ve seen from rival studio Nikkatsu. It lacks the nudity and much of the sex that characterises later pinky violence movies, but it doesn’t stint on the violence. Meiko Kaji is boss of a girl gang, and is the girlfriend of Baron, the leader of a male ...

The Doll Squad is a fun and amusing piece of nonsense from legendary low-budget film-maker Ted V. Mikels. After a US spacecraft is sabotaged by a renegade intelligence agent, the authorities decide that a situation as serious as this can only be dealt with by - The Doll Squad! The Doll Squad being a team of elite female secret agents/commandos. The requirements for membership of this team - you have to be tough and deadly, ...

Well, y’know, two sharp young writers are purported to be writing the sequel, the third movie now. If I could interest Seth [Rogen] and Judd [Apatow] to be part of it, that would be an absolute dream. That’s a quote from Dan Aykroyd when he was asked about GB3. Ok as Slashfilm suggest there is no way that Aykroyd doesn’t know what’s going on with GB3, I’m fairly certain he and Ramis retain the rights ...

Well here’s a new one by me. A movie released on a USB flash drive. The press release says it’s the first time a full-length feature has been released in this manner. Not a bad idea, really. Especially because it is Ghostbusters. While the video game has been on a shaky road as it finds its way onto consoles, this Ghostbusters-branded flash drive is supposedly available starting, now. But I can’t find it up on ...

Star Trek: The Experience requested permission to come ashore on Labor Day, closing its swishing doors forever at a special "decommissioning ceremony" at its former home in the Las Vegas Hilton. It had been public knowledge for some time that the 10-year-old special Star Trek attraction of museums, simulator rides, shops and restaurants would close. The attraction's owners and its Hilton home couldn't come to an agreement on a new lease as Trek interest waned ...

The new Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles movie is taking a page from all the other popular scifi flicks of today: it's going to be another origin story. Co-creator Kevin Eastman, told Heavy Metal that this live action TMNT movie would reveal more about where Shredder came from. Eastman also mentions bringing the original live action turtle movie director, Steve Barron, back to direct this remake. Which could mean an actual man-in-turtle-shell-suit picture. Cowabunga! Says Eastman: ...

Although everyone in Hollywood says that Fox only wants a cut of the money by suing Warner Bros. to stop its Watchmen movie, Fox doesn't seem to be on the same page. The studio has gone on record as saying that it only wants to stop Warner's movie from ever getting released, and now, it's asking for a June 2009 court date—which just happens to be later than Watchmen's scheduled March 2009 premiere. Warner wants ...

Congratulations, Disaster Movie! You've finally brought the "Movie" movies into the elite company of Roberto Benigni's Pinocchio and Superbabies: Baby Geniuses 2. Granted, it's based on only 20 reviews and the first three have at least 40, but the fact that only 20 people on the entire internet owned up to actually seeing Disaster Movie is an even more damning statistic than the percentage. And there are at least, like, 320 people on the internet.

I haven't rewatched it since childhood, but my vague recollections of Gremlins 2 strained through my modern brain's taste filter bring me to the conclusion that the film might not be the Oscar-candidate I once thought. But there was one scene that was very memorable all the same. It's when the film breaks in the middle of the movie and gremlins take over the projection booth (where they injected themselves into various films). On VHS, ...

The Dark Knight keeps surprising us... first, it was the movie itself. Now, some products related to the epic are getting some attention. Hollywood have always got some good merchandising for their movie, specially when the subject is Action Figures. Action Figures have always been a big PART of our lives. Not our lives? Well, at least MY life. But if you can relate to that, than you'll probably get all jumpy when you get ...

Like a lot of other bloggers in this general emerging/missional conversation, I’ve mentioned some movies in the past, considering some metaphor or other that I’ve extracted. Some of these I’ve mentioned here before, and others I haven’t. I’m listing ...

As long as we’re talking about certain people who should be kicked in the balls for making bad movies about technology products, let’s add Aaron Sorkin to the mix. He’s thinking of making a movie about, you guessed it, Facebook. If Sorkin goes through with this wonderful (eye-roll) idea, I’m sure it’ll be a really great movie (double eye-roll). He sounds like he’s just the guy to make the film, too (triple eye-roll) as he ...
