Bill Maher is my hero! Last nights show simply reminded me of that fact. While one could argue that his acerbic tongue alienates the religious right and those voters who might be persuadable, I’ve come to the conclusion that it may be the only way to fight a war with ideological fanatics. Honestly, in the course of an hour, Maher’s program did more to refute the nonsense spewed by the GOP and their Christian allies ...

Filed under: Apple Corporate, iPhoneIn an oddly prescient lawsuit filed yesterday, a San Diego man claims that Apple and AT&T knowingly oversold the iPhone 3G, and overloaded the network, causing slow data throughput. We may never know if this morning's outage was in any way related to the claims the man, William J. Gillis, makes in his filing. He is seeking class-action status for the suit. It follows a similar one filed in Alabama which ...

Let the wars begin! Just kidding. Actually, I ask the question because I think the answer (for most churches) is BOTH. I just talked with 2 guys that do video at 2 different larger churches and they use both Avid and FinalCut. In the world of Church IT (which I’ll blog more about later), there seems to be a either-or mindset and after talking to a few geek friends, plus Tony Steward (who is just ...

Internet service provider Comcast announces it will instate a 250GB per month bandwidth limit for its subscribers starting October 1st. Ultimately the 250GB cap is higher than most users rack up—as Comcast's press release points out, it's equivalent to downloading nearly 125 standard-def movies in a month. Comcast's limit is also much higher than monthly caps other ISPs are testing, like Cox's 5 to 75GB, Time Warner's 5 to 40GB, and Frontier's 5GB. Since the ...

@ksw but your options for switching in most cases aren't that great. for instance: my only other option is to not have internet access at all. there's no phone line in my apartment. and comcast monopolizes every market they're in. if i _did_ have a phone line, it would be owned by AT&T, and that's really not any better than comcast. just slower and more subject to warrantless wiretaps. wri/sts.

Yes. Many people feel it's not that bad, since 250GB is a pretty high cap. However, it sets a dangerous precedent for a major cable provider. Now there is a cap that's officially in the light of day, documented, and subject to policy. In the very near future, it will be an easy jump to introduce tiered caps based on how much you pay (like phone companies do with minutes) or even take us back twenty years to the pay-per-usage model of Internet access.Consumers need to be aware of this, voice their protests, and switch providers en masse before this becomes an industry precedent.

FreeBSD libc 裡的 realpath(3) 會使用 lstat(2),而 FreeBSD 的 lstat(2) 因為用到 VFS_LOCK_GIANT(9),所以在 FreeBSD 上,很多隻 PHP 同時用 realpath() 的時候效能並不好。

If you’re the owner of an iPhone 3G and you haven’t already updated to the iPhone 2.0.2 firmware, do so today–for your sake and that of all iPhone 3G owners. Why? Well, according to sources at AT&T (T), the reception problems that have plagued the device won’t be resolved until you do. iPhone’s running 2.0 or 2.0.1 firmware mistakenly demand too much power from 3G networks. And when they do this en masse, they can ...
