Filed under: Internet, Windows Mobile, Microsoft, Mobile Minute, BrowsersA year and a half after introducing an innovative web browser for Windows Mobile, Microsoft is killing the project. It’s not a perfect, or even moderately good analogy, but I find myself thinking of Opera Mini as a tortoise to Safari Mobile’s hare. The latter is downright suave and spiffy and all that. Opera’s mobile browser, on the other hand, is moving steadily into relative ubiquity. Its rise seems deceptively understated, too. The list of agreements Opera now holds with various mobile manufacturers and network operators is pretty extensive. I won’t treat you to ...

As we’ve noted before, Apple isn’t the only company putting the full Web in your pocket. When Opera released version 4 of its Java-based Opera Mini browser last June, we suggested that features such as ‘desktop view’, tiled zooming, and the use of a proxy server to speed up browsing, meant that it went along way to addressing any iPhone-envy. With the release of version 4.1, Opera isn’t resting on its laurels. New features include ...

On Tuesday an Opera developer was asked during an interview if there were any plans to develop the Opera Mini browser for the iPhone later this year when Apple releases the SDK. The developer responded with an enthusiastic “Yes,” but didn’t expand on it. Wired asked Opera for clarification as to whether an Opera Mini for the iPhone will actually be made. Their response was: This is one of those cases of an enthusiastic developer ...
