I have known about this event for some time as I was at the one of the original planning meetings for it. But, yes, the Tampa Bay area is finally hosting its own Barcamp. There was one over in Orlando, however I haven’t yet made it over to that one. Barcamp Tampa Bay will be taking place October 11-12, 2008 at the University of South Florida College of Business. From the website: Topics may include, ...

Rock, Paper, Shotgun. The content of the site is almost as fantastic as its name. Honestly I don’t know how all these brilliant words can exist on the Internet for absolutely no charge. Surely this state of affairs cannot persist? It’s made up of some of my favourite people-who-write-about-games. In the beginning they were mainly favourites because I realized they all love Deus Ex almost as much as I, but I have since grown to ...

Lindsey and I have been blessed with many genuine friends — ones that make us laugh, can celebrate our accomplishments, and extend considerate help. This week, while visiting one such family, we discovered that they’ve been dealing with some “friends” that reputedly became envious and judgmental of our friends’ recent good fortune. For shame — time is too precious to waste on such superficial friends. With that in mind, here’s my proven guide to ditching ...

Decision making is a process, meaning there is a definitive sequence of steps to go through to arrive at the result. When it comes to making wise decisions, particularly decisions involving money, I’ve found myself frequently falling into three common traps, but fortunately, over the years I’ve been able to formulate some personal ways to avoid these traps that can hinder my decision making process and avoid the pitfalls that come from potentially making a ...

So here are my offerings for Blog Day 2008 - a little belatedly I’ll admit. Somehow it always sneaks up on me. This year though, I’m glad to say I have at least five blogs that I highly recommend. Great knowledgeable bloggers writing about interesting and useful topics. Small Biz Survival - This great blog is focused on small business and small town businesspeople. Written by blogging friend Becky McCray and her team of small-biz ...

I’m fully, 100% in support of all efforts to make microblogging federated. If you’re unfamiliar with federation, my non-technical explanation: Remember back in the days of AOL where you could only send messages to other AOL members? That’s like Twitter/Plurk/Jaiku today. A silo. A federated system, like Laconi.ca/Identi.ca, means you can seamlessly subscribe/send messages to people on other platforms, like you can send/receive email with people on domains different from your own. I’m running the ...

A Fiatal riporter fotósblog felveti a kérdést, ki hogyan fotózik, és miért éppen úgy: Fiatal riporter - Workflow: Te hogyan csinálod?: TE milyen módban fotózol a gépeddel, és az ebből származó kép (nyers vagy JPEG?) milyen lépéseken megy keresztül mire eléri “végleges” formáját? Mire vigyázol? Mit miért csinálsz? Írjatok a kommentekben!

So Google have just released their new web browser, Chrome (in beta on Windoze, other OS’s following soon). I’ve had a play and much like many other people have found it: Lightning fast UI Lightning fast JS execution thanks to V8 Lightweight, or at least it gives that impression as the UI is very, very simple Stable *well this is to be seen, but each tab running with it’s own process should help* Now, I ...

I just got a Buffalo wireless router WHR-HP-G54 a few days ago. It’s small, covers a good range (has a built-in internal amplifier), has decent memory 4MB ROM/16MB RAM and it can be modded to have an sd/mmc card for storage. First thing was to load tomato (I got tired of dd-wrt’s QoS and wanted something different). Soon later I found out what this baby really wants is openwrt. So I gave her the WhiteRussian ...

Despite the thunderstorms and tornados associated with Tropical Storm Fay and the mandatory evacuation of New Orleans due to Gustav, my speaking tour was a success. Only had to cancel in Montgomery due to tornados. My original plan was to spend a 3 day weekend down in New Orleans, then drive back to Nashville to fly back to SEA on Monday. (A one-way rental car to fly out of GPT or MSY (n.o.) was over ...

What happens if you mix NVidia with MythBusters? You get to play with paint guns - a lot of them. NVidia invited MythBusters to their NVision conference to demonstrate the difference in performance between a single CPU processor and a parallel GPU processor. And MythBusters came up with something that was quite extraordinary. They painted a picture of Mona Lisa, using 1100 paint guns in 80 miliseconds. *** Video (not visble in RSS - See ...

With less than two months until one of my favorite holidays, Halloween, I’m stuck in a rut as to what I want to go as. I’m leaning towards Prince. Not SuperBowl Prince but 1980’s Little Red Corvette/Darling Nikki Prince. Looks like I won’t be shaving the entire month of October to prepare. Still trying to figure out how to pull this off.
