I’ve been following updating.me for a short while now, and was thinking about trying it out after it came out of beta, until today. The site is along the same lines as ping.fm and updates all your social services in one go such as Twitter, FriendFeed, Plurk, Identi.ca, Rejaw and also supports less mainstream platforms such as Leo Laports Twit Army and Koornk. The thing that makes updating.me stand out from the rest of the ...

Something Mack Collier just said rang a bell in my head: Technorati doesn’t count services like Twitter, Friendfeed, Plurk, Identi.ca, etc, as valid sources of traffic for a blog. Meaning, for the dozens of people who say that they find something interesting and share the link on Twitter, none of that goes towards whether a blog is authoritative. Does that actually make sense? If we’re shifting as a user base into using services like Facebook, ...

Pownce wants you to share your location with Fire Eagle, a Yahoo service that just recently got integrated with Pownce. Fire Eagle is a geotagging service, so your content will be tagged with the location. Give it a go if you will, you’ll need to be logged in to get started though. On a different note, Pownce gives every pro user who signed up during the first year another 3 months for free, as a ...

Thought it best to address that one right out of the gate. Rejaw is a new microblogging site that sits in the microblog -> lifestream spectrum between Twitter and FriendFeed. Rejaw is probably most similar to Plurk in that it focuses on short form posts by users, but unlike Twitter, it also lets users comment on each other’s posts. Unlike Plurk, which also offers users the ability to post thoughts and then comment on each ...

Ich denke schon. MicroBlogging ist ein starker und wichtiger Trend. Jeden Tag passiert etwas neues.

I’m looking forward to getting to San Francisco this weekend. Mostly that’s because I’ll be seeing so many of my friends there. But there’s a lesser reason that’s so geeky I’m almost ashamed to admit it… At some stage while I’m online in San Francisco, I will, no doubt, visit my Pownce profile—where I post something almost every day—and I will take great delight in seeing my location listed as San Francisco, CA rather than ...

Here we go again... ....with Twitter. No, they're not down. No 'fail whale'. This time it's worse. Apparently, those with over 2000 followers can't access their accounts. As of this post, there's been no explanation on the Twitter blog (other than 'a work in progress' on spam filtering?). The customer service which finally appeared on Twitter (after numerous complaints) is nowhere to be found. This has been a 'known issue' on Pownce for some time ...

Yahoo has launched a new location-based platform for Web users and developers. Fire Eagle lets users either manually enter their location throughout the day or authorize their cell phones or computer applications to do it for them. They can also set privacy preferences to determine who can access that information. Developers can then use that data to build “geo-aware applications.” Pownce has been one of the services testing the platform for its users’ location fields. ...

Account limiting is apparently the new big thing to do in the world of Status Microblogging. Both Twitter and Pownce have apparently introduced limits to the number of people you can follow, and neither change seems to have come with much fan fare, by what I can tell. My first tip-off today was earlier on FriendFeed, when discussions were initiated by Robert Scoble, Louis Gray as well as a blog post by David Risley. There ...

I guess I'm still unclear about how profitable spammers on Twitter are or why I should care if a bunch follow me. I guess the problems are arising for the same people that believe the Nigerian phishing e-mails - they'll follow anyone that follows them and click on their links. As the saying goes, "Common sense really isn't that common."

The other thing most people forget is that when you don't follow someone, they can't DM you. Maybe that's a benefit, maybe it's not. Personally, I like the potential for new relationships which is why I do it. It's just a matter of organization as to how to make it work for you.
