A prototype interface for a touch-screen ’surface’ application for sampling a video portfolio I created for Rehab Studio in February. This interface would be displayed on a 60″ LCD touch screen embedded into a table surface. Evolution of the shapes on the surface show and hide new clips available to watch. The clips available may change throughout the course of the day. Watch it in HD.

I have been busy today working on four or five separate mixes and managed to finalize two of them, maybe. We’ll see how my ears respond after some rest. Anyway, during the last bit of work I was doing I noticed that one of the processor chains was causing insteresting random sounds whenever I pressed stop in Ableton Live. I decided to capture some of these sounds and see if they might be useful in ...

Processing is an open source programming language designed for visual artists, "created to teach fundamentals of computer programming within a visual context and to serve as a software sketchbook and professional production tool." Originally developed at the MIT Media Lab, it's a free alternative to fancy, expensive, proprietary software tools. And man, can you make some cool stuff with it. This video, created by Glenn Marshall using Processing, is called Metamophosis. Featuring music by the ...

I tend to avoid trying new things until the last minute. I usually have to be dragged kicking and pouting into new technology or a new way of thinking. However, if I need to learn something new for a client, though I will still kick and pout, I find the threat of a shitty deadline is just the thing to allow me to dive into something new. JBox2D is the new thing that is occupying ...

It’s no secret, I love me some Shiffman. He is partially responsible for getting me interested in forces and particles which I have continued to explore to this day. He has a fine collection of source code examples on his site and his was the first vector library I ever used. So it is with grand enthusiasm that I announce the arrival of Shiffman’s Learning Processing, a fine addition to the growing number of books ...

Filed under: Audio, Multimedia, Rumors, iTunes On the heels of our earlier post about new features in iTunes 8 comes this post from video producer and designer Allan White, speculating that the new visualizer in iTunes might be Processing artist Robert Hodgins' amazing Magnetosphere, which was available up until a few months ago from The Barbarian Group (aka Robert's design company) as an iTunes plugin. As Allan points out, there are two very strong pieces ...

Demos below! As a sort-of reverse birthday present I've decided to release one of my largest projects, in recent memory. This is the project that I've been alluding to for quite some time now: I've ported the Processing visualization language to JavaScript, using the Canvas element. I've been working on this project, off-and-on now, for the past 7 months - it's been a fun, and quite rewarding, challenge. The full scope of the project can ...
