(The diner I work in is a 24 hour restaurant, and closes only on Thanksgiving Day, Christmas Day, and New Years Eve after 6pm.) Me: “Hello, thank you for calling [diner]. How may I help you?” Caller: “Yes, what time do you close?” Me: “We don’t close until Thanksgiving–we’re 24 hours.” Caller: “I don’t care what time you close on Thanksgiving, I want to know when you close TONIGHT.” Me: “… 5 pm.” Caller: “THANK ...

Yes, Charlottesville is now in the big leauges. Not only do we have a ridiculous music and arts scene, but we now have the token expensive drink. Ventana, Charlottesville’s newest hip Mexican restaurant (at Kiki’s former resting spot) has a very expensive (possibly the most expensive in all of cville) item on its drink menu (as written on their menu): el Dinero ($100 pony up, cheapskate!) Cuervo reserva de la Familia, Gran Marnier 150, Fresh ...

Participative dining experiences are redefining the way we think about food Underground restaurants have found their niche. Stringing together the farm-to-table movement and a bloggy kind of interactivity, they have gained a following among food lovers, mostly in their 20s and 30s, who have an opinion on local versus organic, prefer intimate and casual to grand and ceremonial, and are open to meeting people and building connections in new ways. (I used to work at a theme restaurant that had a huge, double arch aquarium at the entrance to the dining area. We had staff members who would clean the tanks from the inside in full scuba gear. The tanks were filled with brightly colored, tropical fish.) Patron: “Oooh! Is he there to paint the fish?” Me: ”I’m… sorry?” Patron: “The fish. Is he in there to paint them?” Me, catching on: “Oh no, ma’am, ...

Image via Wikipedia OK, so there’s alot of hub-bub about that the Wine Spectator expose that happened by blogger Robin Goldstein. And first let me say a couple things. Bloggers are extraordinarily important to the world and this is just the latest example of some good citizen journalism. Bravo to Robin for the work on setting up this sting. Nice, ethical, and well executed. As a marketing professional for a decade and a half I’ll ...

Located in Coachman's Crossing Centre in Bryanston's Peter Place, Ghazal North Indian Restaurant is an absolute favourite. Serving the best Indian cuisine (in northern Johannesburg at least - I can't claim to have tried all Indian restaurants). This place is always packed. The service isn't too bad, but its really the food that is the winner, and the interesting decor also adds to the ambiance. I especially like the booths that can give your table ...
