Apparently Human Vs. Zombie Tag (HvZ) is a growing trend on college campuses. An HvZ game typically involves hundreds of students and runs 24 hours a day for days on end; dwindling numbers of humans try to fend off and outlast growing legions of zombies. The rules are fundamentally simple: Zombie tags human, human becomes a zombie. Unlike movie zombies, with shambling walks and undead makeup, zombies in the game just wear headbands to distinguish ...

It’s official, Katy finished the Army Ten Miler in 93 minutes! That’s an excellent time, much less for her first ten-mile race. I won’t steal her thunder, I’m sure she has lots to write about when she gets a chance to post about it; and I only got to talk to her for literally three minutes today before we lost contact and I couldn’t make another call today. So I hope to find out tomorrow ...

There are literally dozens of different variables that are relevant to running performance. Among the more familiar ones are VO2max, lactate threshold speed and running economy (or the rate of oxygen consumption at a given speed—the lower the better). One of the most underappreciated performance-related running variables is ground contact time, or the amount of time your foot is in contact with the ground on each stride. Ground contact time always decreases as running pace ...

In Oregon, the weather is starting to cool off. This scares me for a couple of reasons, seasonal depression and the imminent promise of wet days. Those wet days prevent me from running or walking in comfort outside, and my waistline normally pays a little bit for that. This year, however, I have access to a very small free gym and I plan on utilizing that. If you don’t have access to a free gym ...

The best way to expand habits is to build on an existing habit and make it part of the habit. Here’s my recent use of this technique: I always forget to water the lawn (and when I remember I sometimes forget to turn it off) as a result the grass in the little patch in front of my house turned brown. On the other hand each morning I go running- it’s a habit that I ...

You're asking and I'm answering . . . Hi Fit, I was wondering if you could help me with my running issue. I started running a few months ago, usually 10 to 20 minutes every other day or so. However for the last two months, I had to stop after running for less than five minutes because of horrible shin splints. I'm not sure what to do; I never had that problem before and it ...

We're not sure if this is going to be something that Nike can just build shoes for and use existing Apple hardware, or if this'll be a reworking of the whole kit, but there's a lot of new stuff going ...

It also helps me in my free time, where I just climbed Mt Blanc with my fourteen year old son. Die-hard marathoners or mountaineers I recommend to scroll towards the bottom. There, I have an account of the exact times and heights of ...

Two guys made rigs that turns running on treadmills into their characters actually running through Azeroth. They made them by attaching a bike wheel with an optical mousepad and mouse to the treadmills. It's estimated that characters in the game run around 12MPH, but since the two didn't want to have simultaneous heart attacks, they rigged the system to only have to run 6MPH themselves for their characters to reach that 12MPH top speed. How ...

Not only did I make myself incredibly unhappy, but he knew I was ...

There was a decent amount of math done to figure the average speed of a World of Warcraft character, ...
