"Wandering around Second Life today is like visiting Blackpool in February; all sad empty shops, deserted car parks and the stench of loneliness - and the opportunity to buy a fake cock for two quid. Occasionally - very occasionally - you'll chance upon another depressed lump of sub-humanity, wandering aimlessly and wondering what wrong junction they had taken off the M6 motorway of their life to end up somewhere so desolate." I probably postponed posting this for to long. And now Lindens did something. Pleasantly urprised? Yep, so was I. After bugging Katt Linden, Robin Linden and Jeska Linden - and getting respectively “I don’t know, but will look into it”, nothing and “Ask Katt” as answers - I was pretty much demotivated. What were the questions, you ask? Such an important issue like Openspace Price & Policy Change, did you notify all owners by email? ...

This blogpost contains a Japanese translation of the following three articles: A Letter to Second Life Residents by M. Linden (on Openspace Pricing & Policy change) Second Life Knowledge Article on Openspace & Homestead How to vote on JIRA Thanks to Peter Stindberg’s Babel Translations (SLURL) M Linden A Letter to Second Life Residents M Lindenです。

It was with much fanfare that Reuters opened a virtual office in Second Life in 2006.The news service has since comes to grips with an essential truth about SL: It never lived up to its hype.As UK paper The Register notes, Reuters has closed its Second Life Bureau and pulled embedded reporter Adam Pasick aka Adam Reuters out of SL's metaverse, assigning him to, one presumes, more tangible duties. A Reuters spokesperson told The Register:We're ...

I was sloggin’ through the SL Forums a couple of days ago and came upon a question about free ways to paint textures directly onto a sculpted prim. It sort of jogged my memory and I looked up a program I remember hearing about a few months ago called Blacksmith3D. I’m glad that I looked it up again, because it turns out there is a free version of the 3D painting application that you can ...

Kaksi vuotta virtuaalimaailman uutisia riitti Reutersille. Uutistoimiston oma Second Life - reportteri Eric Krangel (Eric Reuters) tunnustaa Silicon Alley Insiderissa, että pelin sisäisten tapahtumien uutisoiminen oli sikatylsää: "It's hard to say what, if anything, Linden Lab can do to make Second Life appeal to a general audience. The very things that most appeal to Second Life's hardcore enthusiasts are either boring or creepy for most people: Spending hundreds of hours of effort to make insignificant ...

In August I traveled to Kenya with Teachers Without Borders - Canada. We delivered teacher professional development workshops to elementary and secondary teachers in a rural region, located about eighty kilometres outside of Nairobi. When I returned, I started looking for a creative outlet to reflect on my experiences. I wrote about my experiences on this blog, but merely writing about them didn’t seem sufficient. So, I started sifting through almost 3000 photographs that I ...

Virtual Learning and the Avatar Generation is een vrij basaal artikel over Second Life en leren.

When I was 14 - which is only 10 years ago - I was as lucky to attend a highschool with a more than decent computer lab for that time: 20 macs hooked up to the internet. I remember teaching ‘internet for teachers: the basics’ with a friend of mine during lunch break, ...

We all know Linden Lab likes to boast about ‘Land Mass’ statistics as as it comes to proving Second Life’s growth. Bad news, they won’t be able to do so at the end of November (or Q4/2008 probably). With a negative growth of “-1420 islands added” on November 24 compared to “26539 Islands Owned” in October that’s a loss of 5% in Second Life’s land mass. Yikes, we’re shrinking! The Openspace Exodus to blame, or ...

Keegan started up an art gallery in in Second Life called 'SLart' in early 2007, prior to the establishment of Minsky's trademark -- however, legally it ...

The space opera science fiction MMO game EVE Online was recently rocked by an insider-trading scandal. Unlike World of Warcraft, the EVE universe is singular and persistent: you can’t move your character to another server, so anything that happens effects everybody. Mediapost’s Center for Media Research covered a new study by the Society for New Communications Research (SNCR) and Middleberg Communications that shows how important social media has become for journalists of all ages - and especially so for younger reporters who fall into the ‘Millennial’ demographic (18-29 year-olds). The study revealed the following key findings: • 87% of 18-29 year-olds believe bloggers have become important opinion-shapers, versus 60% of 50-64 year-olds • 87% of 18-29 ...
