In conjunction with the official launch of the Baltimore market on Wednesday, Sprint's XOHM team along with its partners at Intel assembled a wide range of opportunities to see the new WiMAX network in action. For the event, the team had outfitted a number of "XOHM carts" with the latest OEM products from the WiMAX ecosystem partners. Products featured included newly announced embedded WiMAX laptops from Acer, Lenovo and Toshiba as well as laptop express ...

The WiMax Acer Aspire One hasn't even been announced yet (UPDATE: actually, it just was), but Laptop Magazine got their hands on a model and got to poke and prod it to their hearts' content. So how did browsing the web on a tiny WiMax notebook work? Pretty decently. In speed tests around Baltimore, the netbook was able to hit 6.7Mbps down and 2.8Mbps up. The New York Times started loading in 7 seconds, taking ...

A hotspot as big as a city,呵呵,也算是另一个层次的比较恰当的比喻。

With WiMax popping its head into the airwaves, Lenovo has decided to start adding WiMax to its notebooks for high-speed ‘net access. This is pretty snazzy news for those of us using air-cards from carriers wishing for just a little boost in data-transfer speeds. Available immediately are the ultraportable ThinkPad X301 notebook, the ThinkPad T400 notebook, the ThinkPad SL300 and SL500 notebooks - all WiMax capable. Later this year, we can expect to see the ...

With Sprint’s WiMAX-based next-generation 4G (well, officially it’s a 3G network) XOHM mobile broadband network officially up and running in Baltimore, the US is poised to see 2-4Mbps download speeds and 1-2Mbps upload speeds blanketing the nation. Sprint has finally started redefining themselves as the premier data-centric carrier in the US, and manufacturers are rallying to give mobile Sprint mobile broadband users a variety of options for WiMAX-enabled laptops. Sprint's enticing Xohm WiMax network is slowly making its way across the country, but Lenovo has complained of a major problem with it gaining popularity. According to GigaOM, Lenovo expected to dominate the market with a variety of WiMax products since they had put a lot of time and effort into testing equipment. But Lenovo explained that Sprint is requiring a "narrow" pipeline of internal product testing—something you don't see for Wi-Fi equipment—which has nixed ...

Today marks the formal launch of Sprint’s Xohm network, and celebrants are gathered in Baltimore to show off their new WiMAX-enabled gadgets. But after chatting with an executive from Lenovo, I wonder just how open Sprint’s network will be, and how that lack of true openness might slow the adoption of WiMAX. Lenovo is on hand showing of its five laptops designed for Sprint’s WiMAX network, including the super-sleek x300 that competes with the MacBook ...

Of those people that purchased the new Apple 3G iPhone this summer, some 30 percent of them defected to AT&T from other networks, according to a report out today from analysis firm The NPD Group. With about 23 percent of people switching carriers between June and August, that’s a lot of churn, but since two-thirds of the AT&T iPhone newcomers came from Verizon (47 percent) or Sprint (19 percent), both of whom have good 3G ...

Whether people were holding out for 3G, the $199 pricepoint or just for their damn contracts to run out, in a market where carriers are pretty much forced to steal customers from each other, the iPhone 3G has been a Batman-worthy thief. One out of three iPhone 3G buyers jumped from other carriers to AT&T, though it might surprise where they came from. Even though Sprint is the only major carrier actually bleeding out subscribers ...

A number of stories hit the wire yesterday about how the credit crunch is impacting carriers.?? AT&T CEO Randall Stephenson said Tuesday that his company is unable to sell commercial paper for terms any longer than overnight. It’s not that short-term borrowing is unreasonably expensive, Stephenson said. A shortage of buyers for the debt means such borrowing is not as readily available as it had been even three weeks ago, he said. Meanwhile, Sprint continues ...
