Magnifique !

If you want to take really quick & sneaky photographs on the street without putting your eye to the viewfinder, here’s a sneaky trick. Setting your lens in manual focus mode, and setting it at its Hyperfocal distance will allow you to take photographs with a great deal of flexibility, often allowing you to shoot from your hip, or while supporting the camera on a steady surface. Very un-obtrusive. Remember that Hyperfocal distance works best ...

You ONLY step through if: 1. You’ve clipped out of the left pedal already and are riding on the arch of your foot. 2. It’s a fast approach to the barrier so you have sufficient time to set up and coast. The default dismount is to clip out of the left first, and just step off around the back with the right foot. That works every time, in every situation. Option 2 is to stay ...

Just south of the art town Carmel lies Big Sur, probably the most majestic meeting of land and sea in California. It’s been painted by many artists over the past 100 years. Unfortunately, it’s also been scared by the recent fires this summer. I don’t know what the area looks like today, and am a little hesitant to go back. How’s it changed? if you live in the area, chime in, let us know… This ...

On the first day of a photojournalism class at Syracuse University in 1998, our teacher, Professor David Sutherland, told us all to stand up with our cameras. He gave the order like a military drill sergeant. We stood up. “When I point at you,” he said, “take my picture. If you do it right, you can sit down.” Only one person was allowed to sit. Everyone else, all 10 or so of us, failed. We ...

至于那个instruction上面说的,post the blog day blog post还要链接到伊们的站点,云云,更像是viral blogging,或者赤果果的SEO罢了…… What's your business on the web? Facebook, porn and ***.

Change Management is a bit of a black art here in New Zealand and seems to be muddled through with varying levels of success which tend, unfortunately, to be towards the "it didn't really work" end. Why is this, a combination of these and probably many others: Kiwis are famous for using the number 8 wire for everything Kiwis are famous for just getting on with it Most Kiwis operate in a small environment and ...

I recently read this article on “eye dominance” and photography, and it made me curious. Even since the first time I picked up a camera I’ve instinctively used my left eye for the viewfinder- I never really thought about it. I’m primarily right handed, but I find I do a lot of things “lefty” (play hockey, bat, shoot etc…) Anwyay, I did the little “eye dominance test” and lo and behold it turns out I ...

I recently started to offer digital packages to my clients. I hesitated originally because I really wanted to control the prints AND I was afraid that clients were going to expect them to be a lot less than ordering prints which didn't make sense to be from a business perspective because they are still a lot of work (assuming you retouch all the proofs you give your clients). So now I offer them and they ...

Sometimes we tend to forget the obvious in our quest for the hidden. Here are a few ‘obvious’ tips to remember when shooting on the streets. Get In close. All too often the actual ’subject’ of a street photograph gets lost in the activity going on around… Get close to the subject, make them the primary object in your frame. Be observant. Street photography is all about observing people, their actions and juxtapositions. Keep your ...

Some of you may recall a painting from a few weeks ago similar to the following. Yes, it's the same place -- the tail-end of Lake Glensevern at Herring Cove Provincial Park -- with a slightly different composition. I really enjoy the big, dark masses of spruce that dot the barrier beach by the lake; they make it easy to create an interesting composition. More interesting this time, however, were the rich colors in the ...
