"In order to incorporate Web 2.0 functionality effectively, digital libraries must fundamentally recast users not just as content consumers, but as content creators. This article analyzes the integration of social annotations -- uncontrolled user-generated content -- into digital collection items. The literature review briefly summarizes the value of annotations and finds that there is conceptual room to include user-generated content in digital libraries, that they have been imagined as forums for social interaction since their ...

Θα μπορούσε ίσως να βγάζει ένα "state of the blogosphere", όπως έκανε το technorati.

There have been a number of good critiques of President-elect Obama's one-way use of YouTube to broadcast his weekly radio address (see especially my colleague Ellen Miller and John Dickerson's takes) and so I'm not going to repeat them here. By posting the address on YouTube--even without comments or ratings allowed--Obama is allowing us to see something that we couldn't see before when presidential addresses were just on radio: who cares to listen and who ...

Last night in Chicago The Roots announced that they will be retiring from touring effective March 2009. The move is being made to accommodate their new Night Gig as the house band for Jimmy Fallon when he replaces Conan O’Brien as the host of Late Night in March of 2009. Conan will be moved to the Tonight Show. Well shit. Not the best way to leave 2DBz updated but this is how it’s gonna be. ...

Meditation and psychology are intertwining as experts in the fields realize the benefits of a symbiotic relationship. Joelle Hann reports for Whole Life Times that many psychologists have begun to incorporate yoga and mindfulness into their therapies, and some yoga instructors are studying up on psychology to create “yoga psychotherapy” for their clients. “Integrating yoga-based methods into psychotherapeutic work presents inherent challenges,” Hann writes. Part of the problem lies in a strict taboo against physical ...

People blog for a lot of reasons. Some do it to keep family and friends apprised of personal news. Others do it out of frustration with a particular company or product. According to some reports, there are even bloggers who do it out of guilt. (The popular IndiaUncut blogger, Amit Varma once confessed, "When I log on to my site meter and see that a couple of thousand people have come to my blog while ...

Bort is in to graphs and stats these days, so he was interested in my little Technorati hack. Lots of us bloggers are using Technorati to track who's joining the discussion on articles we posts. Technorati gives you details on how many blogs link to you, and how much they link to you and translate that into an Authority rank. Now what they don't give you is an idea on how that rank evolves. Technorati ...
