Apple rumor site MacBlogz is claiming to have details on the iPhone tethering plans that were announced by AT&T CEO Ralph De La Vega last week. Not surprisingly, the plans for the iPhone are in line with the data plans they offer for other 3G devices. The source, which they claim is from within the company, says it will be an additional $30/month for 5GB worth of tethering for iPhone users. Plans with the tethering ...

Filed under: Rumors, iPhoneArs Technica's Justin Berka quotes MacBlogz, which claims a source at AT&T confirmed that tethering for the iPhone will closely resemble the phone-as-modem plans already available for BlackBerry. The plan will cost at least $30 a month, and the cost will be rolled into a new plan for the iPhone. Tethering your iPhone for internet use can be a real life-saver when there's no Wi-Fi around, but for those who aren't the most tech-savy, the tinkering with proxy settings and the like can be a little too complicated. Thankfully those times may be coming to a close. Unofficial tethering app iModem has just released an update that lets you tether your iPhone via USB cable.

Finally, one of the many “every other smartphone can do it, why can’t the iPhone?” complaints constantly read throughout the blogosphere is about to be addressed - AT&T will soon make an iPhone tethering plan available to customers. Filed under: CellphonesThere's not exactly a lot of details to go on here (or any, really), but AT&T Mobility CEO Ralph de la Vega has just confirmed during an interview at the Web 2.0 Summit that an AT&T-approved iPhone tethering option will indeed be available "soon." That lack of detail includes any word on pricing or, of course, an actual release date, though MacRumors is reporting separately that it's hearing the tethering capability will be ...

If you needed another reason to slap down your cash and buy a T-Mobile G1, how about this: clever developers have cooked up a way to use the phone as a wireless broadband dongle for your laptop. The process, known as tethering, lets the laptop share the mobile’s internet connection using USB. It’s not an uncommon practice, but T-Mobile had earlier said it wouldn’t be possible, despite users asking for it and other mobiles, such ...

Over the past couple months, I’ve gotten to know my iPhone a little more, as I’ve done a lot more housecalls. I rely on it to map my way around the city (Toronto) with its GPS, find places to grab a bite, and a few more things. I’m happy to admit that I’m in the tank for the iPhone. Its not a perfect device, but it is a magnificently close enough to perfect that I ...

Know how some people are complaining that they have trouble connecting to AT&T’s 3G network? How they drop calls? How they blame Apple? (Despite the phone working pretty dang well in other countries on other carriers). Remember the theory that there were so many iPhone 3Gs hitting the market that AT&T couldn’t handle the load? (That their network was basically rabbit ears tied to old antennas? — okay, we made that last one up!) Now ...

Engadget brings the news: there will be an Apple event next week, on October 14th. Obviously, based on the invitation above (which we didn’t receive, sniffle), the focus is going to be on notebooks. Presumably there will be a new form factor or two to talk about here based on Apple’s rumored “Brick” manufacturing technique, where they carve the case out of a single block of aluminum.
