周其仁在《改革开放30年感言》中,曾有一段论述,大意是,就某个领域而言,总得到了现有局面无法支撑下去的地步,真得非改革不可了,变革才会发生。而那时,其实已经付出了极为惨重的代价。 现实确实如此。中华民族是这样一个习惯于崇古的民族。最初的儒家理论,核心思想就是守旧,未来是不可期待的,只有传说中的尧舜时代才是人类历史上最美好的时期。而在汉代之后,儒家思想统治中国两千余年,培养了中国人高度忍耐现实的性格,是坚韧,也可以理解为“能不改革就不改革”。 就IT业而言,目前,也正在面临着一个重新思考过去发展路径的机会。 主流的观点认为,在此次金融风暴发生后,随着全球大型金融机构的纷纷垮台、破产和被政府变相接管,金融业的缩水无法避免。而随之而来的就是IBM、微软、英特尔这类IT巨头ubdebu调低收入预期,因为前者是他们最重要的客户。而同时,对英特尔这类依靠技术更新速度击败对手和培育市场的引擎型公司而言,同时还要面对消费市场的降温的噩耗,紧急刹车更是板上钉钉的事情。 它们非常不愿意,因为这意味着不能再卖出更多的服务器、大型的解决方案、昂贵的服务,当然,还有很多已经尘封多年但随时重新盛装登台的管理理念。无论这些东西是否真的有用,多少年来,正是它们告诉用户应该建个别墅了,接着说总得有锁吧,之后表示应该把钥匙藏在保险箱,而保险箱最好放在海王星上,放心,飞船已经准备好了 …… 这种局面持续多年。IT行业有意无意地认同乃至习惯了这种驱动。对企业级用户而言,绝不意味着过去的那些投入是浪费了。虽然没有确切的数字,我们却可以自信地下结论,有无数的计算能力是浪费的,在N年前,我们就具备了可供未来N年所需的计算能力。然而,痛苦的事情是,当我们发现了这个水晶球的秘密时,总是能听到这样的声音:云计算确实是不可逆转的趋势,同时,虚拟化也可以帮你解决这些问题…… 像命运一般,我们无法逃脱他们的摆布。你可以说是欲望,但是,冗余,以及制造冗余,成为IT业多年来的唯一目标。只有持续地制造冗余,乃至让“冗余”本身可以流通,才可以持续创造高度繁荣的IT产业。 这跟金融风暴如此之像。金融机构们为人们描述未来生活的美好样子,让所有的人都去购买无数的金融衍生工具和垃圾债券,让每个人看上去都像有钱人。 债券总得还,冗余总得付出成本。如果没有了冗余,大厂商们会很不习惯的。如果每个人都要精打细算地过日子,大厂商们的好日子可怎么过? 冗余,正像一台无处不在、无影无形的永动机,推动整个IT产业疯狂地往前奔跑,跑啊跑啊,就像那追赶太阳的夸父,奔跑到死。 现在的问题是:冗余可否有尽头?这意味着,我们是否还有机会迎来一场真正有价值的改革。金融风暴是一种休克疗法,是对旧的金融秩序的调整,只不过,十分剧烈罢了。冗余呢?关于冗余的变革,会像金融风暴那样也来一场吗?而那时,IT业又将会做出怎样的反应?
