Prospect Magazine recently looked at the world’s internet traffic to debunk the myth that it would be full of porn sites. The good news was that in the Top 100, only two were adult sites, which hopefully means people are turning to the web for information and not their more carnal vices. A brief note for those temperamentally inclined to believe that every other click on the worldwide web is a quest for sex—in the ...

Getty Images While the Internet does a lot for improving the environment – from providing ways to reduce energy, reduce consumption of physical goods, telecommuting capabilities and so on – it also creates the ability to do incredible harm to ecosystems. With the ability to offer ways to quickly, conveniently and anonymously trade exotic animals and plants, the Internet is actually a source of harm. Thankfully, though, China recognizes the harm of wildlife trading, and ...

Just a little something I cooked up this afternoon. It depicts the FSM harrowing Frodo’s steps through Mordor on his quest to destroy the Ring. Why is the FSM depicted as an adversary, you ask? Well, sir, we both have our own religious agendas. -Sam Fair enough. I like the drawing.

What about having a company where everyone works for incentives? This thought cropped up in my mind when we started working closely as a team to earn more money. We have all seen many successful open source platforms - what about starting an open source office? What about taking the office as a platform - where it is not necessary to have a building called office? Ok, lets talk about the web based industries or ...

A freakishly quiet moment on Istanbul's roads. Despite the difficulties involved in comparing gallons to liters and converting from one currency to another, the price of gas in our respective countries somehow seemed to come up frequently as a topic of conversation in my Turkish classes. And there was no easier way to get my fellow students--generally from European nations--and, particularly, my Turkish teacher riled up than to say how much

The existence of human being is closely related to living environment. (The existence of humans is directly bound up with the environment in which we live. The environmental pollution that is getting more and more serious has already affected our living and we should be more concerned about environment protection. ...

Hardly . . . but there is a glimmer of hope. California colleges are helping to lead the way in getting fewer college students to rely upon cars on college campuses. The following comes from Treehugger: Other campuses, as reported by the Association for Advancement of Sustainability in Higher Education (AASHE), are offering financial give-aways to keep cars off of the road. Stanford University, for example, will pay up to $282 a year to students ...

With due respect to Tom Laskewy, the notion that we need to bailout the big three for the sake of the Chevy Volt doesn’t really make sense to me. If the Volt project is genuinely promising, then liquidating General Motors wouldn’t lead to the Volt disappearing into the ether, it would result in the Volt project being sold to a non-bankrupt automaker. Arguably the Volt project would be helped by ending its association with the ...
