Filed under: PC, RPGs Though we're sure BioWare PC fans appreciated how free it was, having to wait for Mass Effect DLC must have been tough for them after getting used to creating their own content in Neverwinter Nights. Today, the company announced it would be returning to form with Dragon Age Origins, revealing the content creation tools that will be packed in with the game. We've put full details after the jump, but expect ...

Guy Kawasaki always has the best morsels of wisdom for us. Here he comments on the Avenue A Razorfish 2008 Digital Outlook Report which can be downloaded here. Their mega-flashy site is here. Says Guy: "Only a few years ago, a Web site’s home page was the most prime piece of digital real estate a publisher could offer. Not so much today, however. The relevance of the home page as a media buy is on ...

If you are building a consumer web site with a user-generated content (UGC) component, chances are that understanding whether you are building a producer-consumer or producer-producer product will make a big difference in the way that you think about your business. The producer-consumer model. Traditional media involves a very small group of professionals who produce, edit, and deliver content to consumers. User generated content came along and changed all of that, right? YouTube has over ...

Last week marked a red-letter day in my professional life with release of the UMBEL subject concept structure. A new study from Ipsos MediaCT reveals that viewers aren’t too keen on the notion of ads in UGC video — even if it’s free. They don’t mind ads in long-form content, and are even tolerant of them in short content like music videos and news clips. But with the majority of digital video consumers against them, this anti-ad sentiment is another blow to anyone hoping to make money off of UGC vids. The prospect ...

I think youtube should just show adwords-based text ads on the videos that have passed their copyright filter and be done with it. Even with just those ads, they would make a nice amount of money because of the rediculous traffic that youtube gets.

Jay Rosen goes multimedia with his definition of Citizen Journalism It’s such a rich definition in that it doesn’t really define what it does as much as it defines why it’s such a challenge for the mainstream media. And perhaps why they can’t get a handle on it. Jay cam up with the definition a while back- the video just cements things. So there is a tonne of useful after matter, as Jay calls it, ...

Well, I’m calling it - user-generated content is officially dead. Hulu is here, ABC is raking in the views with their player, the studios are still adapting but beginning to develop business models, and semi-professional content creators now have the tools to compete with mainstream content. The line is clear, people want to watch professional content, it holds value. Anything else has no value, economically at least. So there. Now that professional content has reasserted ...

Here’s the thing, WordPress already is a Social Network, of a fashion. First the money flowed to social sites like Facebook that showed the world how to get users to interact. Then it moved on to “roll your own” platforms like Ning that allowed people to build their own social microsites. But as Web 2.0 startups get increasingly specialized, the money is following, as today’s announcement from social publishing platform Wetpaint of a $25 million Series C funding round, shows. In the wake of Ning’s $60 million ...
