"Remember the meeting time." "Don't forget the meeting time." Do both of those say the same thing? Not as far as your brain is concerned. Why not? The brain doesn't register negatives. So if you use the negative sentence, “Don’t forget the meeting time,” your brain will ignore the “don’t” and hear the statement “forget the meeting time.” If you use the positive sentence, “Remember the meeting time,” you’ll have a much better chance of ...

This past weekend, a hip hop blog called Nah Right posted a YouTube interview with ?uestlove, a member of hip hop live band supergroup The Roots. And he said that The Roots were retiring from touring in order to become the house band for Jimmy Fallon when he takes over Conan O'Brien's late night show next year. But that video was quickly pulled, so everyone has been scrambling to find out whether this apocalyptic... thing ...

My new text adventure videogame, Everybody Dies, was just voted third out of 35 entries at the annual Interactive Fiction Competition! It starts with a metalhead, Graham, realizing that throwing that shopping cart over the bridge was not the great idea he thought it was. Even if it did get him out of washroom duty at Cost Cutters. Play it online or read on for the wicked cover art, my thank-you speech, and more download ...

I hate that word/phrase. It is vaguely insulting and has airs of superiority from the person who utters it or types it. Normob is a shortened catch phrase for "Normal Mobile" or the average mobile user, to indicate that the person one is speaking of is not of the heightened level of knowledge and superior usage of a mobile phone or device as the speaker / typer. I am calling bullshit on this. Get off ...

امروز یک نفر را به صورت ضمنی سر کار به قتل رساندم. ازم پرسید که: "این ترشی فلفل که تو مشت مشت می خوری با غذایت، خیلی تند است؟" من هم جواب دادم که: "اصلا!" باور کرد و خورد و ترکید و سقط شد. فک کنم هنوز فحش های توی دلش از ناموس پایین تر نیامده باشد. گاهی این خیلی بد است که حسگر های ما با بغل دستی هایمان کالیبره نباشد.

One of the great things about the NDA being lifted is that a lot of great books about iPhone development are finally being published. It’s about time: for many months the top search hit on this site has been iphone app development. A lot of new developers need guidance. Last week, Addison-Wesley contacted me saying that they wanted to mail a free copy of Erica Sadun’s new book, The iPhone Developer’s Cookbook. I guess that’s ...

fprintf writes "As much as I hate to admit it, it looks like my 13-year-old son is following in my footsteps and preferring interesting, science-based toys. In the past he has been really interested in Lava Lamps, Newton's Cradle, and anything magnetic. It seems the knick-knacks that have generated the most interest were small and relatively inexpensive. For example, a small laser pointer keychain I bought him a couple of years ago still provides tons ...
