Phoneflix has completely changed my interactions with Netflix. Now, wherever I am I can open it on my iPhone and manage my Netflix queue. It’s as random as while watching television or at the car wash or even sitting is a movie theatre watching previews. TweetDeck (and Thwirl before it) accelerated my twitter usage. Yammer’s desktop AIR client is universally regarded as compelling within our company, contributing to our usage rates. The Evernote iPhone app ...

New site Twingr offers the chance to set up your own microblogging community on a hosted platform - unlike previous options like Laconi.ca, which required you to install the service on your own server. It seems like a no brainer, but I think there’s one major flaw in the service - critical mass. One of the successful implentations of Laconica, is Leo Laporte’s TWiT Army, fed from the TWiT Netcast Network, and therefore having enough ...

Ewan posted a while ago about Yammer and that team have been playing with it. Initially we used a fair bit now interest dwindled, until a few days ago that is. Yammer have now have the ability to send updates by SMS via a UK number and also the option to receive all yammers updates (yams?) as well. If you don’t know what yammer is; it is simply twitter for your organization, however only people ...

Yammer, the Enterprise Microsharing platform, has just released some needed functionality, Yammer Groups. Yammer, which connects employees of the same organization based on their email domain, now has gone a step further to provide for both public and private groups within an Enterprise. To my way of thinking, this is certainly “right to play” functionality. In the hopes of becoming part of an Enterprise 2.0 backbone for organizations of all sizes, grouping functionality is absolutely ...

Twitter’s “water cooler” collaboration, support and problem-solving qualities have led to much discussion about a similar application for internal “Enterprise 2.0″ collaboration and communication. Yammer’s success touched off a spate of announcements about similar applications, and Jeremiah Owyang and I have been tracking the growing list. Today I’m proud to present the first side-by-side comparison of 15 enterprise microsharing applications: Enterprise Micro Sharing Tools - Upload a Document to Scribd This table was compiled from ...

CrunchBase Information Yammer Information provided by CrunchBase

When Yammer, a micro-messaging service for the enterprise, launched at TechCrunch50, the biggest complaint was that the service was one big inbox, with no way to create groups or tag messages. That hasn’t hurt growth of the company, which had 50,000 users a week after launch. But as usage grows at a company, the “all messages” tab can get a little noisy. We are using the service religiously at TechCrunch, and the signal-to-noise ratio is ...

Reading this news that Loic LeMeur sent me this morning, I see that Twhirl, the social software front end client, now supports any laconi.ca install. If you’re not yet up on laconi.ca , it’s an open source, run it on your own servers version of Twitter. See the flagship install of it at identi.ca. So, to sum that all up: Twitter inside the firewall, private for your business is Twhirl+laconi.ca. Twitter outside the firewall with ...

By Aaron Strout and Joe Cascio Although experts in the social media space have been talking about how businesses might adopt microblogging tools like Twitter and Plurk, only recently have we started to see a series of new vendors cropping up in the enterprise microblogging space. This has been due in part to businesses needing to figure out how Twitter can benefit the enterprise. The fact that the mainstream press has started covering this topic ...

Two thoughts. We’ve been using Yammer but it’s not clear to me what advantages this has over IM and chatrooms, providing you are already using those behind your firewall (we use Jabber). Having said that, Yammer is a very nice UI and the twitter-like desktop and mobile clients are great. It’s possible to have too much of a good thing, presence-based instant messaging is one of them. Just need one system for everyone to use. ...
